Hay Fever Advice Pls!

Any of you guys have advice for me. I've been struggling the last 6 yrs with severe hay fever. The itchiness and sneezing all the time is a real pain in the....
I'm sure I don't have to tell many of you about the swollen eyes, burning throat, constant running nose etc.

Thing is, I've been through the Allerjax, Illiadin tabs and salt solutions - does not work anymore. Last three yrs I go for injection, but this only last for a month now @ R700 a shot and only allowed two shots in 12 month cycle. In between I use Texa tabs. This year it seems worse.

Was wondering what works for those of you with extreme hay fever? Mine normally starts from middle Sept.
 
Sounds bad... Have you moved to a different area in the last few years already ?

I use desodene on a day to day basis as necessary but now that I'm heading into my prime-time hayfever season I've started on the NexoMist nasal spray again.
 
have you tried homeopathic stuff? it's worth a try if you've tried a lot of other things.
 
Telfast tabs - they don't make you drowsy but unfortunately not cheap.
 
you need antihistamine, did the doctor not prescribe you any? they are available otc as well.

my spelling might be wrong. You can buy over counter or ask doc. They should still know which one that is.

allecet, telfast and desodene are antihistamines, essential if you have allergies.
dont use cold and flu medicine, i see many people taking otc flu meds for seasonal hayfever and other allergies, it does not deal with the problem.

I feel for you man, going through the early phases myself! hate summer!! :(

I usually get an injection although at this time, although this can has cause a hayfever attack, despite my Dr saying it can't?

at the moment I'm using LARANO - just bought out my local chemist of all 10 packets :) and a nasal spray - FLUTICASONE, not to keen on nasal sprays as they themselves can cause an irritation in the nose which brings on an hayfever attack so I try avoid them, but one thing I have found that works in the early stages of
an attack - when yr nose starts to itch - is to blow yr nose clean and dry! then wipe some of yr SALIVA on the lining inside yr nose, this helps to stop what's irritating the lining. works well for me. might sound gross but when u suffer from hayfever u get desperate for relieve!

Over the many years I suffered from hayfever I tried every damn thing that came out on the market - one thing that DID WORK was Damzine! but they took it off the market years ago - my Dr reckons that it was working to well and the company was not making money - go figure!!


during an attack the best thing for me is to lie down on my back in a dark room with a COLD clothe over my nose for a few hours!

get a humidifier for the bedroom; dry air makes my hayfever worse.

Loratadine is also a goodie, S3 I think, so you need a prescription, or a lax pharmacist that accepts cash.

Oh definitely but it takes a few days to kick in, once it does however I can often stop taking the pills.

Try horse urine, let us know how it goes! I'm always for new avenues :D

Though I suspect your breasts may swell and become sensitive and you could be prone to an emotional moment or two...

Fortunately I don't get hayfever, but I do get chronic sinus attacks during this season. Nose just runs constantly which leads to cough.. tons of fun.

I've been taking Fexo 180 for it. It's an antihistamine that doesn't cause drowsiness (although apparently it does in some people). It comes in a box of 30 tabs, with a dosage of one a day. It takes about 3-4 days to build up in your system, but works well.

I hear good things about this Telfast 180 and Demazin NS (apparently expensive!). Although it seems like different tabs work for some but not for others. I wonder if it's a case of trying them all and see what works. The Texa 10 I'm using now also contains the antihistamine Cetirizine HCL. It worked well last year, but this year it's a bummer and I've used it since end of August to build up :confused:

Homeopathic stuff is all crap. Nothing but different salts mixed in different concentrates. I also suffer from terrible hayfever, and I try to stay away from Allergex. Makes me too drowsy. :o Currently I use Becleate nasal spray, this seems to work (touch wood!!)
