hmmm... it seems like AMD is now going for the ever effective "innovate and make a new architecture when we have to" method ,

At least these new offerings will give a decent improvement over the previous ones.

How much longer can Nvidia compete with their hideously massive dies, and inefficient shaders? I mean common Nvidia, the gt200 architecture was just an update on the 8xxx series cards. I think it's time that Nvidia actually saw the light and designed a new architecture with some finesse.

They did not include the GTX295 in that benchmark, it should perform close/very SLIGHTLY better than the 5870

There is one where both are compared and it seems pretty 50/50 between them tbh.

Looks half decent, more than likely cost a good 6-7k though

At least i hope the 4890 drops to around 1.5k, then i will upgrade and go crossfire .

Maybe...there is just too much shyte still flying around atm. We (read I) need proper benchmarks done by reputable people before I'll deliver my verdict

It will cost about R4000-R5000 at launch (the same price as the HD4870).

the HD 5850 will cost between R2500-R4000.

I read that AMD will mainly only be offering 1 gig options for the 58xx range because now that the ram speed is up (over 100gb/s!), the cards just need more ram to fill up for new games and the heavily demanding textures.

Of course, this is what one can assume with previously released cards. I see the rand is gaining a good foot hold, and because of this we might fine the cards cheaper then expected (if the importers and distributors don't decide to take a fat scoop). I think AMD/ATI have found their niche to attack the mighty Nvidia (I've also got the feeling AMD and Nvidia are trying to give Intel a very hard time when they release Larrabee)
