Hey Abzo, hope you don't mind, I'll just reply here cos QT knows more than me so he can chip in.

I'm not really sure about the SDPVR cos it also has an internal multiswitch which splits the 2 inputs into 3 tuners, so I think you would have more issues with it.
Additionally you have DOD & BO recording in the background, not sure which polarity this uses, QT?

Yeah, internal multiswitch means a splitter won't work. You can switch inputs on the back of the decoder, to view horizontals.

Background recording used vertical, but I think this might change (unconfirmed)...

Thanks. So you mean disconnect it from the SD PVR vertical port and connect to the SD PVR horizontal port to watch the horizontal channels? I tried that last night but it didn't work, will try again later.

Also, if I get a standard decoder and connect it to the SD PVR, will I be able to watch both polarisations?

If you get the SAT2 to work, but those to decoders are not XtraView compatible... You really need to speak to body corp, or managing agent to get this fixed. There is no shortcut unfortunately.

I've only been in the apartment for four days, I don't want to make a bad first impression by throwing a hissy fit about not being able to watch Animal Planet & TLC :p

Perhaps I'll speak to the other residents and find out how many of them are using PVRs so I can rally up the troops against body corporate.

PM me the complex name...

Done. I looked at the dishes and they appear to have dual LNB (2 cables running from the LNB towards the dish)

Here's what happens with my different connection schemes:

Sat 1 - horizontal
Sat 2 - vertical
Got an "Lnb 1 overload error"

Sat 1 - vertical
Sat 2- horizontal
Only vertical channels appeared

Sat 1 - horizontal
Sat 2 - DC
Only horizontal channels

Edit: ok SAT 2 is definitely the problem. I connected SAT1 to horizontal and disconnected SAT2 completely and now I'm getting the horizontal channels only.

Why does SAT2 need to be completely disconnected to get the horizontal channels but not to get the vertical channels?

But the reason for this post is Monday's upgrade (1 October). Despite the news story I read about a single LNB being no good and a rush of subscribers to upgrade to twin LNB, my viewing remains almost perfect. I can only find a problem with two of the HD movie channels - 105 and 108. With those two I get neither picture nor sound, followed by a error message saying to check my cable connection.

I can almost certainly live without those two channels if it's because my installation is now at its limit, but does anyone have any fix?

Same thing for me. After the switch on Monday, I also can't get channels 105 and 108. ArthurDG doesn't use PVR functionality, but it was working for me (albeit with the limitations of only being able to record on same polarity), but now I'm unable to record at all, and the On Demand shows don't seem to be getting updated. I tried swapping the cables on the splitter and no difference. Does this mean the splitter option is now a no go after 1 October, or are others out there still working?

All OK now, I have those two channels as well. It just took a reset to factory defaults. (I then changed a couple of things back to how I had them before that.) That reset also deleted the additional networks and I assumed I'd have to re-do them. But I have all the functionality I had before, without doing that. Including the full 8-day schedule, although as usual it took a long time before that was filled. Perhaps that networks edit will be required for the PVR functionality, which I'm not using.

Good call, a reset to factory defaults did the trick and I got channels 105 and 108 working. Actually, I had to wait to reset because my PIN code was locked, I called MC during the day to have it reset, and when I got home the recording features were working again without me having done anything else. I'm not suggesting that the PIN reset fixed that or that the call center agent saw something curious on my setup after I mentioned I wanted to do a factory reset and made a change that fixed it, but that's a bit of a coincidence.

Anyway, everything is now back to the way it was - just need to see if new shows show up in On Demand...

If you want a Samsat splitter, try Samsat. Otherwise try Space TV, Ellies, Zakspeed or one of the many other brands. They all have 5-2150MHz DC bypass splitters (if it is more than 2150MHz, that okay too, but 2150MHz is all you need).

Hi Guys, thanks to everyone for the awesome thread!

I just want to now if anyone can help me. After struggling along with an SD PVR with single LNB for most of the year in the complex I'm at, I decided to get the HD PVR 2P since one can at least get all the channels with a single LNB setup without doing anything else. I've noted however that the decoder seems to "partition" the SD and HD channels in the sense that when you tune to one of the new movie channels it shows that it's tuned to the HD version according to the channel logo and when you scroll through the channels on the TV guide you only pick up the HD channels, but when you cycle through and back to channel 101 you can only cycle through the SD versions of the movie channels and the rest of the SD channels, which is no big deal as you can still manually tune to any channel HD or SD anyway. The only other problem is that the TV guide does not function 100% as is to be expected.

So I then decided to try out the splitter option and got hold of a Samsat 5-2400 MHz splitter with DC power only on the one leg and connected it with the powered output going into the Sat 1 connector on the decoder and the other into SAT 2. After rebooting, both Tuner ! and Tuner 2 show 98% signal, with tuner 1 displaying Vertical and Tuner 2 Horizontal according to the menu function. However, the partitioning of the HD and SD channels is still the same, and the TV guide is not very reliable. Also, pause and record only works sometimes. I've tried the additional network settings but it does not seem to make any difference. The decoder also fails with DSD upgrade and gives a message to try again in 10 mins.

If anyone knows anything else I can try it will be great, or am I just doing something wrong?

I understand one won't get full functionality with this setup but if it can be improved slightly it will be great!

Thanks

Thanks ;) the significance of the 2150Mhz? i saw one advertised up to 2300MHz and was not sure if it would be ok, but i guess ill get it. Previous post indicated only 5-1000 Mhz was needed and i see the number just gets higher with new posts. sorry to ask so many questions....
