Thanks ;) the significance of the 2150Mhz? i saw one advertised up to 2300MHz and was not sure if it would be ok, but i guess ill get it. Previous post indicated only 5-1000 Mhz was needed and i see the number just gets higher with new posts. sorry to ask so many questions....

DStv frequencies on communal and domestic installs range from 980-1844 MHz... The IF range is only up to 2150MHz.

The OP was wrong in using the 5-1000MHz. Signal will go through but will degrade quite badly. This is a problem if the incoming signal was bad to begin with. The other big problem is cheap made-up F-F leads. They are useless.

Single LNB with splitter doesn't give me PVR functionality

So... got myself an HD PVR 2P and tried the single LNB installation with two different frequency splitters, a 5-1000MHz and a 950-2150MHz.

Both of them, on the surface, give the same result, I can see all the normal channels plus all the HD channels and the next two programs on the info bar plus EPG. But whenever I try any of the PVR buttons I get the "E101-29 This function cannot be performed without a valid MSK" error. :crying:

Now I'm wondering if I've done something wrong or whether DStv have fixed this feature with a software upgrade. So does anybody know how I can restore the original software version? Failing that, does anybody have any other suggestions... please?

IIRC that's a setting on your account, ask them to activate PVR functionality, if they says it is activated ask them to de-activate & re-activate. Use the call centre

I lost all signal on Saturday night. There was a bit of a storm at that time and I have a feeling that could be the cause. So all I'm getting is this message: "Check that your set top box is properly connected to the cable point"

I use an Ellies 2 way splitter which has been working since I moved in a year ago.

I live in Pineslopes Fourways in The Straight Road. The complex name is Sibaya Sands.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

So what was the problem? Does the splitter still work?

I have no idea what the problem is now. I used my decoder and connection at a friend's place and it worked perfectly. Now out of all the channels on the full bouquet, I only get about 7 or 8. Must be the settings in my complex. Will have to wait until the 6th of January 2014 when the installers re open for the new year.

Does catch up and box office work with a DC splitter?
Used a el cheapo splitter and all works, accept catch up and box office.

I did this installation but when I did a software update I only had the vertical or horizontal channels.

Only saw this now. I am shocked that your body corp, managing agent or landlord did not make you aware of the settings. Which complex, if you don't mind sharing? Send me a PM. I work for the suppliers (not installers) of the kit installed there.

No complex. Free standing house. My dish is to far away and the only way to lay the cable is through the roof, which I'm to scared to climb into :D.
Jokes aside, I have a twin lnb here and once I have the time I will lay the second cable. But for now those settings work perfectly for me.

I found the in link google. Hope it's ok that I posted it?

That makes no sense... Those settings are strictly for complexes with expensive processing equipment. Something else changed and it was just a coincidence that you put the settings in at the same time.

I don't quite follow?
I used the settings posted far above to activate the extra network settings. They didn't work for me, well they did, but my catch up and box office wouldn't work. I then googled certain network strings and ended up on that PDF. Entered them, and voila, it all worked.

Only have one cable feeding into the house, as I haven't had DsTV for years, hence the workaround until I Upgrade my lnb and feed the extra cable through.

Yeah. Not going to go into detail, but those settings are not the reason things started working (unless you have this equipment in your roof, but you don't)...

Something else changed. Also, there will be clashes. Try recording channel 110, while viewing 101. Either the recording or viewing channel will bomb out.

I'm pretty sure I don't have that in my roof ;)
I never record but will give it a shot. But am sure it won't work. Like I said, those are the only settings that give me catch up and box office.

Having a slight problem with our 2 HD PVR 2Ps. Connected to a single cable from a SatCR LNB. When both decoders are on, the signal drops once every few seconds. When only one is on, the signal drops, but only intermittently. If you unplug the one decoder, the other one works 100%. I know this is related to the SatCR settings on the decoders.

Any suggestions on how to set it up to change the output IF channels that both decoders use, or is that only supported by the Explora?

You cannot do it. Won't work.

Thanks. I guess that's Multichoice for you.

There is a SatCR v2 on the way, with 24 user bands. With MC's move to high band in 2017, SCR v2 switches with a fibre optic backbone will become a preferred distribution method for complexes. For this to happen successfully, MC will have to make multiple SCR presets on their STB's and also activate it on the 1131/1132 STB's (they are hardware capable). When this happens, you will be able to split the single SCR line to multiple decoders.
