HD PVR 2 P - single lnb installation

Sounds like you already a twin LNB?

2 separate single lnb dish installations (1 in the lounge, 1 in the bedroom) joined by a heartbeat cable
Not the best looking, but gets the job done
was the easiest & most cost effective way to get xtraview, on the 3rd floor of the complex

you are aware that having 2 dishes each with a single LNB is the same as having 1 dish with a twin LNB.
as for your ather question you cant have more then 2 decoders on 1 subscription, the best only way to get 3 seperate viewing chanels at once is to connect the old SD pvr and an HD pvr together. the SD is dual view and the HD is single view so 3 chanels at once.

If you had a neighbor who also wanted to do the same you could use his and your connection into a 2x4 multi switch and then two back again.

That way you'll both get vertical and horizontal on all four ports.

Hey guys, thanks so much for the info regarding the installation. I was glad to find out that i didn't need to fork out more for a new LNB. The only problem that I'm experiencing is that I can only pick up the two Supersport HD channels and all the channels broadcasted on the vertical polarization i.e. I'm not picking up MnetHD, DiscoHD and normal channels on the horiz. polarization. I've initial tried the single input and then split the cable and plugged into both LNB inputs to no avail. Currently on premium subs. help please!

First try rebooting the decoder and rescanning the channels. Are you sure you are not recording something at the same time. Because it sounds like tuner 2 is locked on vert so tuner 1 can only view vert. If you want to switch to view hor, tuner 2 needs to be idle. I sometimes (maybe once a week) have that issue that I just doesn't want to pick it up but a simple reboot works (unplug power). Let me know if this helps

Also in the Northgate area, and the installation guys quoted +- R1400 to put twin lnb and heartbeat cable.....
Didnt ask a second question........

Thanks! it helped, but I realised my primary problem was that I had my lnb cable leading to a splitter in the ceiling, with one end not leading to anything, i removed it and made a direct connection. Afterwards I rebooted it and everything is working now.

just thought i'd add that my old decoder (non PVR/HD) worked fine with the splitter.

all you need is a multi switch and some cables, and a bit of time DIY job. its prety easy, just the thing abot 3 viewing chanels only works with 1sd and 1 hd pvr, thats gonna be expensive

I' tried the splitter thing - but still cant view mnet hd and discovery hd, not recording anything and I have rebooted 2 times?

If I check signal status on both tuners it's 100%, tv guide is working now as well.

Got it working - swopped the two cables going into the decoder around and it can now record, shows all channels.

Hope this helps someone else as well, wonder why it will work that way and not the other way around, maybe I need to remake the connections again?

Bought the PVR 2P decoder this morning, Installed, activated new smart card and immedetialely worked! with single LNB. Also bought some kind of splitter thing and twin LNB module, but not gonna bother with them now as everything is working like it should.

Try record or check the full TV guide...
Install the twin LNB & then you'll be sorted

Get a 2x4 multi switch and run your existing two cables into that which will give you 4 ports on the multi switch, two of which you can run into your SD PVR and the other two into the HDPVR2P.

You will also need a RF cable between the SD PVR and the HDPVR2P to get XV working.

Cool Thanx. wanna get the f-type connecter as well. my calcultion says i'll need 10 . 8 for 4 for SD and 4 for HD from MS and then 2 for HD pvr to SD pvr ?
Multichoice is just around the corner from me so I'll take the smartcards to them to have it activated. apparently i'll need a new SD smartcard .

If you have one of the older smart cards in your SD PVR it will need to be changed to a new one - the older ones (older than 2 years?) are not compatible with xtraview.

You will need 10 F-Type connectors... they are about 99 cents from Ellies.

Thanks for the help.
one last Question. Currently my setup is working fine. Have main TV in TV room and 3 others in bedrrom 1 , 2 and 3 using tv links and active splitters. one amplifier/splitter ( using mains power send RF feed to roof ) and in roof another DC pass / Active splitter to 3 rooms. Will these work for the active view to work in the 3 rooms ?

Xtraview uses something similar to that being used by the remote control extenders so technically it will still work only that you will have the TV1/TV2 on different RF channels as you currently have it and also have a different RF channel for the HD Decoder.

I cannot recall if the HDPVR2P supports TV3/TV4 remote control mode or only the TV1/TV2 as per the PVR - this may pose a problem in that you'll only be able to control two of your viewing environments remotely whilst the third will have to ignore remote control commands.

Tim

I have twin lnb setup. Will I be able to run extra-view from the HD PVR 2P decoder - by splitting the one lnb feed off to the 1110 decoder?

thanks
