I'd like to know that as well.

If you just want to run one HDPVR or a HDPVR+single view decoder then a SatCR would suit you fine. No real signal quality or performance pros or cons
General advantage is less cabling
Disadvantage no expansion possibilities

Thanks for all your help Smurfatefrog, one final question. (really this time) Do how know much would it cost to replace my current setup with a single SatCR with a HDPVR+single view decoder with installation and cabling?

You welcome
If you want to keep one 1131 then the easiest way is to get a SatCR (about R800 / R900) & simply replace your current LNB with it.
The legacy port must go to the HDPVR & other one to the 1131, thats it. No cabling changes needed.
You can try do this yourself if you mark the position of your current LNB, otherwise call a few installers & simply ask them what they charge to change an LNB, shouldnt be more then R200 labour

If you went quad LNB (around R450) you would then need one more cable to the HDPVR (at around R4 per metre)
So this option would work out cheaper and leave a spare port on the LNB if you wanted to replace the 1131 with another HDPVR later
Just make sure you seal up the spare port.

btw, these component prices are from places live Space TV & Sats-R-Us, if the installer sells it to you he will try charge you a fair bit more. So rather go buy the LNB yourself

Hi, i'm a little confused with installing the decoder. I'm still using a single view decoder (single LNB) and i understand the lack of functionality with that. What confuses me is how do i get DSTV on all my other tv's (apart from the main one which will recieve HD).. I currently have a male and female coaxial cable running from my single view decoder into the other tv's. Now i have the baby hd pvr and it doesn't have coaxial..?

Thanks

Use RF out, its exactly the same as co-axial. You just need to get a F connector to replace the plug at the end of the cable, like this http://www.naval.com/help/f-185F.JPG
Take off the aerial type end plug & replace with this, they about R3 each

ok i need help.. I'm trying to set up the decoder with a single lnb. I plugged that into the satellite in 1 (SatCR). now, when i try scan the network it says "DSTV signal could not be established... Please ensure that the LNB cable from the dish is connected properly..."
Now i called multichoice and they said that i needed to change my settings in network setup to 1. Other 2. Controlled 3. SatCR 4. 9750 (currently 1. DStv IS7 2. Controlled 3. Univ 4. 9750) then i must save. Now when i press ok to save, nothing comes up. The dstv rep says it should ask me to save but it doesn't. It just does nothing. If i press the blue/yellow button to scan the network, i get that same error. If i press exit and then go back in, it's back to the original settings. So basically i need to save them before i can scan the correct network.
The guy on the phone then told me that i must have a faulty decoder (which i don't believe) so i put down..

Any ideas?
Thanks

do you have a single lnb or a satcr lnb?
if you have a satcr then yes decoder is fualty.
if you have a normal single lnb you need to use a spliter to split that cable in 2 to 'fool ' (see first post of this form tim182 was kind enough to explain)the decoder in to booting up reset your settings and it should work fine dont forget you wont have the ability to record and only subscrivr to the normal subscription and dont have to pay the extra R65

thanks, i got it working.. i dunno if it's SatCR or not. it's about 10 years old.. I managed to scan the channels on another network (not satcr) and it picked them up. Then found out that i had to change my subscription because, even tho i'm paying premium price, i have a mnet decoder and therefore have dstv without mnet inorder to watch mnet as a seperate channel.. If you take mnet seperately then your can't have HD channels.
Thanks for the help/advice in this thread.

guys can u plz help me out here before I go buy a baby HD PVR

I currently have 2 x DSD 1131 decoders running Xtra View. So Im paying that extra R65. I got a dual LNB coming from the dish, 1 cable to each 1131 of course.

I had this installed when there was a Daddy HD PVR installed. I had a 2x6 multiswitch installed, with HD PVR in one room, and an old deconder in the other room. (but that was my OLD setup)

I just wanna make sure that I can simply unplug my main 1131 and simply plug in the baby HD PVR and it should just work? (after calling MC with new card details..)

My understanding from the guide is that my setup will NOT work coz I have xtraview... :( So I will have to install a 2x6 multiswitch?

please help :)

Thanks for the help

You need to use the cables that are going to both 1131's & put those into the HDPVR to get full functionality. Then get a multiswitch to be able to connect the 1131 to it.
But if you just want to do this half working single LNB "solution" then yes just stick the LNB cable from the 1131 into the HDPVR

I dont mind not being able to not record... so the jippo solution would work for me, but then my xtraview wont work... ??

according to this guide on page 1 anyway

[*]Xtra View will not work

I don't see any reason why it wont work.
You already have a Twin LNB, why not just get a multiswitch & have full functionality. You say you dont want to record but I promise you once you start using recordings you wont stop, no ad breaks, watch it when you want. The only thing I ever watch "live" on TV is sport

thers is no reason it shouldnt work, but you paying the xtra R65 for dual view any way you might as well use the multi switch if you have it aready and recording capability as well

Got mine installed with the splitter, really awesome, everything works.

However, MC confirmed that they can not activate HD without the R65 for PVR, she tried, asked people etc, nada.

But I think I'll keep the PVR function for just in case.

That's nonsense! They can give you the HD channels because they are simply part of premium.
I know this because I had a home trial on the HD PVR & all HD channels worked without the PVR option.
