HD PVR 2 P - single lnb installation

The sound on Discovery HD seems to dissapear for 5sec every 20min - anybody else having this problem?
It's only started to happen in the last week.

Yes, I got the same problem with single LNB. Not sure if firmware upgrade on the decoder is required or it's another problem.

Bought my HD PVR 2, a Ellies Splitter and 2 short Coaxial cables yesterday evening. Got home at 18h30 and connected the decoder and splitter in less than 5mimutes. Phoned MC and another 5minutes later I was connected. The HD channels works perfect and could not find fault with the PVR functions.
Thank you very much for the post!

Hi I just want to know if it's possible to set up a standard pvr up with a new p2 HD pvr so you can view 3 different channels in the 3 rooms at the same time and also have the record option .
If it's possible what set up will I need ?

yes you can, you need a dual LNB if you have the normal pvr you have that and a 2x4 multi switch, and a whole bunch of cables

Hi
I've done the single lnb installation with a splitter. Initially it worked well but now I don't have certain channels:
Mnet
MM1
UniCh
Series
Discovery
SS1
SS2
SS5

I'm not recording anything but strange thing is, when I try record these channels it works and it even plays back the recording despite the "live" feed from the channel giving me the "Signal not found" error message. Basically I just can't watch them live but I can record whatever is on these channels.

Please help.

Did you check the frequency spec of the splitter? The Ellies 2-way(AS2F) splitter will not work properly for what you are trying to do. It was made to split UHF/VHF and not the L-Band that is coming from the LNB. 950-2150MHZ is what you need. The LNB converts Ku-Band to L-Band. The Ellies splitter only supports 5-1000Mhz. Replace it with a SAMSAT splitter that supports 5-2400Mhz or a multiswitch with only vertical connected.

I live in a complex and this was the only way for me to get access to HD channels. Did the install last night and works like a charm, thanks Tim182 for this guide. Having no problems what so ever except for the recording and viewing on different polarisations at the same time like the OP pointed out.

I've read through this whole thread and some other forums regarding the use of the splitters.

I have seen at Game that the have an Ellies HD PVR DIY kits which has 1 2x4 Splitter and 4 cables at around R390 for the set. Will this work better than just getting a 1x2 splitter? The 1x2 splitters I saw at Game gas a maximum 1000MHz will this be enough as I read somewhere (might even have been among these pages) that the splitter should be able to handle at least 950-2150MHz.

May a splitter that is not “strong” enough result in no signal being received?

I live in a complex with a single lnb installation. If one then use the 2x4 splitter into which of the "2" sides connections should the cable from the wall come in? I assume one should then run lnb1 and lnb2 on the "4" side to the decoder.

I bought a HD PVR 2P and will "upgrade from MNET to DSTV. How will I know that the cable setup is correct before I contact Multichoice to activate the DSTV?

Francois, the 2x4 device you saw is a multiswitch but if you are only using 1 input then its just being used as a simple splitter so it will work the same
The best thing to do first is to find out how the complex is setup & what you require. Check how others with SDPVRs or HDPVRs are setup

Hello,

I need some help about changing from single decoder to a HD PVR with single LNB. I want to buy PVR decoder and use it with the single LNB with the splitter. I want to use HD and recording as well. I read everything how to do the installation and how it works, but the main question is, how do I activate the PVR at Multichoice with no extra cost of R65. Do I tell them that I want to use it as a single decoder and what qeustions must I be prepare for?

Without the R65 you wont be able to record....
Tell them you dont want PVR functionality if you dont want to pay R65, no recording, pausing etc

+1 you have to pay the R65 to be able to record, also with single lnb when recording you will only be able to record certain chanels depending on what chanel you are watching.
plus its prety easy to swap a single lnb for a twin one, i have done it plenty of times already, and lnb are prety cheap an available every where

With the 2P now supporting Catch up/On Demand - does anyone know if the single LNB/splitter setup will work with this.
I got the update yesterday morning, but have yet to get any On Demand programs...

I am on holiday ATM, brought my HD pvr(daddy) wiith me as well as my 2 x 6 splitter.
I have a communal dish in the complex, I get almost all the channels, but no recording or playback. The information bar is screwed and shows the wrong dates etcetera and on SS2 the sport menu keeps on popping up.(very irritating while watching the cricket)

I also have no TV guide.

My cable from the sat. connect to the 13v 2x6 switch, and the 4 cables from my switch to the decoder.

If you can tell me what kind of communal system (switching or IF conversion), I might be able to help. Where is this complex?

Seem like there are Multiswitch systems in all of the blocks there, so unless they can run a second cable from the main system to your unit (for the second input on your 2x6), you won't be able to make your 4 tuner work properly...
