HD PVR DStv subscribers left in the dark

Multichoice seems to have stagnated ito service and content.
My gripes in no particular order:
1. Repeats
2. Where's the widescreen content?
3. Sound levels between programs and adverts.
4. Sound track gets reset to Family, even if I change it in settings.
5. Repeats
6. No new content worth watching
7. More repeats
8. What's the purpose of the Animax channel?
9. Repeats

I think that sums up the "service" offering from MonoChoice :o

i agree with you on all of them, but as for the animax channel.... tune in @19h30 [i think] and watch Ninja warrior and Takeshi's castle [no, its not anime], probably the two best entertainment shows on tv....

I would have liked to see Anime movies in that time-slot, not reality TV (as entertaining as they might be).

Ah yes, ye good olde banning or deleting of relevant posts ....... has happened to me 3 times there now. I dared question them .... no insults or rants, just questions

errr... fixed the typo there... and seriously, I never watch SABC ... like in ever!

edit: sorry i put it on to Morning live at 6AM, cause nothing gets me out of bed faster than that irritating news presenter Vuyo whatever his face! - Best alarm clock on earth!

Build your own PVR. Enough free software out there to do it. I use GBPVR and the best thing about it - post recording it automatically strips out the adverts - so I dont even have to use the ffwd button.

HD PVR

I agree with all the comments, but must say in comparison to watching sport and series in non HD compared to HD it is worth every cent.

The one demand service will be awesome, and if I remember correctly they are planning to launch three new channels early next year. One which will be dedicated to sports.

I agree to many repeats on lame movies in HD though.

I personally havent had any freezing problems, or recording issues, and I installed it myself which saved me lots of money on the installation portion.

The purpose of the animax channel was probably to give the anime geeks in SA what they wanted, and even then they're not happy because its dubbed, and the series episodes are shown in a muddled order. I watch anime, but I am not a fan, because that implies certain behaviour which I do not subscribe to.

In terms of the HD PVR, recall that there are various firmware problems, and, its slow because the processor probably is overloaded running bloatware, or possibly it is not powerful enough, and Monochoice/UEC set a rigid budget meaning the poor engineers could not use a more expensive and powerful processor.

As for the content, I feel that I can get better content spending the same money on a decent ADSL connection... no repeats, no lame shows like "My Name is Earl" and pathetic adverts. An no pathetic animax channel. I can watch anime in its original language without lame american dubbing and "wow" factor!

unfortunately animax is the closest we'll get to G4TV and SPIKE in the US....which also feature that Ninja warrior and stuff...

My brother is a big fan, he likes to watch it whether its in muddled order or not.

Its a nice channel for geeks and anime geeks alike, now if they'd only start showing local gaming tournaments and video game driven content.

Thats my 2 cents...

Geez, my TiVo does better than that on some wheezy hamster driven processor from the ark. Other then the HD (woohoo 1 channel) it records sd perfectly, has a better season pass manager, better search function, better ff/rew, better scaleability, better dump to pC capability etc etc.

They really have a useless supplier/software development team - hell, tivoza even helped to point them on the right path with regards to implementing season passes for all the good it did them.

I only sub 'cos there is nothing better and CN etc keeps the kids busy while trying to lie in on a Saturday AM.

Cheapskates should employ ample qualified programmers and get this done. Multichoice make themselves look like fools over and over again with this incompetence and inability to meet their own deadlines.

If I remember correctly that is purposeful to get your attention at advert times.

They may perceive that it will WAKE UP the viewer, but for me it's my cue to click to the next channel - screw them and their ads. Its PAY TV - FFS

ads r not welcome, still don't understand why we must see crap like VERIMARK - and a few other FOREIGN ads!!

Then again the crap that's on DSTV - I guess the media people have figured out that the viewer is semi comatose and needs WAKE UP call:D

I prefer to record my favourite shows so that I can skip through the ads when I choose to watch them:)

Personally I would not recommend the HD-PVR to anyone yet. I have had it since day 1 and have unfortunately been frustrated and let down by the service and hardware offered by multichoice. I can not tell you how often I record things on TV and either it does not record, or half way through the show decide it needs to stop recording. I have also had incidents that my recorded shows just disappear. Very annoying. Maybe I should bomb DSTV and rather just subscribe to iTunes for the same price. At least I know I can watch whatever I want to watch and not worry about half recordings.

i've also been saying this all along the hdpvr is crap.

For the last two days I have missed 7 minutes of Binnelanders (one of the few reasons I have DStv) because at 6pm the decoder decides I have not paid my account. Then about 7 minutes later is changes it mind. My account is on debit order - it always goes down on the 1st. So I am fully paid up - and fully ripped off.

I've had the same, but it only shows the msg on Mnet. Change over to kyknet and watch Binnelanders there :D
