Hi everyone

I've got a reasonable understanding of DSTV and whats required normally to get the PVR going.

I live in a townhouse within a complex which uses a communal dish, only one connection available.

Is it still possible to get the HD PVR working or is it a lost case?

Not possible to lay one more line, or it is but they are charging me 15,000

You can use just one cable but you will not receive the extended iplate and certain other services. You will be able to record but only if the channel is on the same polarization as the viewing channel. If not then you will get a black screen. You will not get DoD or BoxOffice viewing.

It would depend on the communal dish setup in your apartment block. I lived in an apartment where the dish tech itself was setup to handle the 4 port tuner of DSTV, you just needed the settings from the installers (they put a copy in everyone's apartment) and a proper splitter for the cable. I used the 2 tuner PVR and had no issues.

Calling Multichoice will not help you. You need to call the installers and ask them if the installation is PVR compatible.

+1
Speak to others in the complex, you might have a proper system in place. If not then you can go the splitter option but you'll have issues with different polarities

I would speak to other tenants and ask all to get on the BC's case to upgrade the system for everyone. Otherwise, there should be a way to upgrade your feed for less than R15k...
