simple answer no.

MC has rights for English Prem League.
SA cricket and rugby.

How does ODM wish to compete when they cant provide the ONE and ONLY thing that practically EVERY subscriber pays MC for and is the reason they dont drop them - sport!

As far as I know you really need 51% or more to actually have a final decision at board meetings.

Twenty Percent is NOT going to take you very far. ( OF course 20% does have other humorous connotations )

UNLESS of course all the OTHER shareholders are really just "silent-partners" and RUBBER STAMPS.

I am curious to know who actually does the development of the software for the PVRs? Does Multichoice have its own in-house department for doing that or have they outsourced it?

Also, the part about the current HD-PVR being "rushed" to market doesn't really hold any water. Multichoice has known for at least several years before the 2008 Olympics that that the broadcasts will be done in HD.

Some things just cannot be done according to Africa's way of sleeping for 90% of the day,and then trying to suddenly do all the work in the remaining 10% to try and justify the paycheck. :rolleyes:

Will definitely stick with my standard PVR. Records properly, changes channels at lightening pace and only needs a reboot once every 3 weeks. Am really glad I never bought the HD model. My folks are tearing their hair out with theirs. It may as well have a floppy drive in it!!
 
Lol, enjoy spending 4k on a brand new P.O.S decoder from maltitchoice :P

100% correct, and the fact that Multichoice's total lack of regard for their (captive :mad:) customer base is also disgusting.

Nowhere in the civilised world would such gross incompetence by a monopolistic service provider be tolerated by the paying public. And to cap it all we in SA have to accept the same low service levels from many other SPs .. e.g. Telkom and our mobile telephony providers.

Can someone file an Anti-Trust suit against MultiChoice? They are bundling a hard drive recorder into their PVR and also excluding HD recording on other devices.

I would like to see them pay a huge fine for this and open up their platform for others to use whatever harddrive recorders they want to use.

For starters just fix the auto-tune on standard decoders so that when a timer record is set on non-multichoice hardware that it will actually record the right program and not 7 minutes of the wronf stuff because the auto-tune "magically" delayed itself.
 
MultiChoice doesnt write any software,
the software is created by OpenTV a third party co. and the relavant manufacturers, pace or UEC.

The openTV software is one of the key issues found in the HD Box.

The PVR IS a hdd recorder... they're not building one into the PVR...

As for excluding other HD recording devices, you're WELCOME to use whichever device you want as long as its HDCP 1.1 Compliant afaik... you just have to figure out how to make it work.

And the auto-tune has always worked perfectly for me....

theCableGuy : MC do write their own software.. its based on the OpenTV middleware, but its still MC customised. the OpenTV core is actually rock-solid and very good... afaik, FoxHD use it in Australia, and its great...
 
Yeah... its MC's UI etc thats buggered.. not the OpenTV middleware...

FoxTel HD+ is built on top of the OpenTV Middleware and from everything I've heard people love it...
