HD TV Advice

You guys are so off-topic its scary right now
The original question has already been answered to the poster's satisfaction so instead of creating a whole new thread for this debate, we can continue here since the conversation has already swung in that direction.

Sony were almost solely responsible for the success of Blu-Ray.
I agree ..... and with their PS3, it has indeed been a successful strategy.
But they no longer have the market share lead in Blu-Ray devices any more.
i.e. The latest GFK data shows that even Panasonic Blu-Ray is now outselling Sony
in their most important markets.

So what was the point you tried to make with your betamax comparison??

Wow.. you still don't get it - "Don't buy technology at the end of it's life cycle"
Would you want to be the guy still buying Betamax in 1990 let alone 2002?
Same goes for Plasma in 2010 - Backlit technology is changing the game plan
which is the only point I have been trying to make.

I think the point to note here is that in the case of Betamax, the 'technology at the end of its lifecycle' resulted in you being unable to use the hardware you'd paid for since nobody was manufacturing the movies anymore.
It doesn't apply to this argument since even if Plasma TV's were end-of-life (which they aren't), they would still continue to function normally after they stop being manufactured so there's no need to avoid buying them for now.

My $0.02 worth...

I was gonna buy a plasma this weekend after all the stuff i read about SD being better on them. But yeah there is no chance i would ever buy it after viewing HD feeds on a HD ready plasma and HD ready LCD. The difference in picture is quite big. You can see the pixels and pixel edges a mile away on the plasma, especially if you look at logos on the displays, like the Supersport HD logo etc. The black did display better on the plasma yes but the overall picture quality is a million times better on LCD.

I rest my case!

My 2c had a hd ready plasma and upgraded to a full hd lcd and i can notice a huge difference especially when playing ps3.

+1 There seem to be people on here who either dont have a clue, are blind or just plain dumb. HD Ready plasmas look crap compared to a LCD. The pixels on a HD ready plasma are VERY visible even from a 3m distance

When are OLED displays hitting the market?

Probably after the 3D craze...
The manufacturers are pacing themselves nicely. Plasma, LCD, Full HD, LED, 3D then maybe OLED...

Closely followed by streaming media straight into your brain.

Last time I watched a 3D movie I was curb surfing with my car so I'm not joining the 3D craze.
