HDD opinions

I am also going to try this fix though -->http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=128807&st=0 with a modified Nokia data cable as soon as I get the guts to do it. Or if anyone in the Cape Town area want to make a quick buck and who is more clued up about the procedure on that link, please let me know.

What do you have to loose besides your data you can't get recovered anyway due to the cost. The procedure seems straight forward, follow it to the letter and you should be ok.

I would be willing to do it for you but I don't have the serial interface & live in KZN.

I know a guy/data recovery company in JHB that could probably do the recovery for you. I will phone him tomorrow and get a rough estimate as to the cost and let you know. I have used him twice before.

OKay thanks guys! will change the pc-boards and give it a go. Otherwise I'll also need that number of that data-recovering company in JHB please?
THanks!
Regards...

I say rma the drive then sell it. Then get a wd drive.

Ok, the guy gave me a ballpark figure of R1500-R4000 for recovery. He reckons the price varies as there could be slight differences between drives requiring different procedures.

Personally I would try and do it myself.

Great news!took my hdd to a company called Computer Storage Services in Midrand. Recovery and a new WD drive for R1500! Excellent service, they are actuall busy as I'm typing here!what a relief!

That's awesome.

Okay, great, got all my data back, but now when I start my computer I get a blue-screen just after the bootscreen the Windows restarts. I can however start in Safe-Mode, but due to the transfer of my data from the old to the new HDD, Windows needs to be reactivated which can only be done in Normal Mode :( Why do I get the blue-error screen? Is it some missing drivers or something maybe?
ANyhow, thanks!

Regards...

Format -> Reinstall

Troubleshooting windows is a waste of time.

Okay, I got sorted. Just hit F8 and the "Last Settings that worked" option, and my PC booted just fine!
THanks for everyone who contributed throughout this whole Seagate HDD failure/Data Recovery/HDD Choice/Blue-Screen Error Fixing!
I appreciate it very much!

Regards!
