HDMI cable query

Damn, struggling to get the system to work via HDMI. Works ok with auxiliary cable. According to the instructions, I'm supposed to plug one end of the HDMI cable into HDMI-out port of the home theater system and the other end into the HDMI-in port of the TV. Select HDMI on the hts and it should work, but I'm not getting any sound. Also switched on Anynet+ on both devices and tried a different HDMI cable which has been working on the Xbox, but still no sound.

Anynet+ has got nothing to do with sound so forget all about it.

Which source are you trying to get sound from? The TV or presumably the sound system you still haven't described.

If you want sound from the TV through the sound system both will need to support ARC (Audio Return Channel) and you'll need to plug it into the ARC HDMI port on the TV (HDMI 2 on most Samsungs).

If neither supports ARC you won't be able to use HDMI for sound.

The sound system is an Airtrack HW-F450 Soundbar connecting to a PS51D450. There are 2 HDMI ports with the second port also labelled DVR. Appreciate the input.

The source (DSTV decoder, gaming console, bluray player, etc) should be connected to one of the HDMI-In ports of the "sound system", which is typically an AV receiver. Then an HDMI cable is connected from this device's HDMI-out port to the TV's HDMI-In.

If you are not using an AVR, but rather passing all audio to the TV and from there to a sound-bar (for example), then the TV would require ARC functionality, which allows its audio to return via HDMI to the soundbar.

If you're not sure whether the PS51D450 does support ARC though, then I'd connect the source (Xbox, DSTV) to the sound-bar's HDMI-In and the TV to the sound system's HDMI-Out, and the sound should work. As long as the source is connected to the TV directly and the TV model does not provide ARC functionality, you won't have sound from the sound-bar
:)

edit: given that the sound-bar only has 1 HDMI input, you'd either need to connect additional devices to the optical or auxiliary inputs, or purchase an HDMI-splitter for additional HDMI inputs

Mini Displayport to HDMi... To the left of the USB. Those converters are not cheap.

Contact Scoop Distribution they can source these cables for <R100.

Otherwise Apple Store is your best friend at R400 for an adaptor without a cable.

I've bought them numerous times for our office.

They are better even because it's a cable and not just an adaptor.

But fine sheep on ahead and burn your money.

Dude. I'm just saying I don't think it is under a R100... If it is, great. Not my money. I just gave advice.

Just checked invoice.

Minidisplayport Male to HDMI Male - R90 excl VAT.

USB to Lightning Cable - R70

Lightning to Dock Converter - R75.

And I didn't realise I'm on MyBB.

Scoop actually have an agent on these forums which I'm sure would gladly assist.

Is this it then ? R100 on Ebay.
