Hdmi cables not all the same lol?

That's the correct one yes, strangely enough I got my cables from Checkers

Works perfectly. They even had some cheaper 3m at one point.

Yup, that's the same one I've used, but it works. But not as expected cause the dummy laptop but when testing on my Xbox Series X it worked nicely.

Cables Varies in 2 ways. Version and directional vs Omni-directional. Most are Omni but I found cheapies that only work in one direction.

They don't differ in gold vs other material like Audio RC but version support does matter.

When I replaced my TV and amplifier then added a PS5 to the mix I had to replace all of my older cables.

I tried the "premium" Sansui cables from Hifi Corp as they were listed as 4K 60 compatible. Turns out they were...sort of. They were fine on certain colour spaces but wouldn't display an uncompressed RGB or 10bit HDR signal properly. Turns out that despite being HDMI 2.0 rated they were too low in terms of bandwidth.

Went the to nearest Ellies store and picked up their Ultra line (a black and light blue colored connector) which is rated at 18Gbps but does not specifically claim to be HDMI 2.1 compliant. No issues with those and they were actually cheaper than the Sansui cables.

A side note: the Ellies cables above are also available on Takealot but at the time were significantly more expensive than direct from Ellies for some reason. As much as 3 times as pricey when I looked.

The issue is always the same. Trying to in the first instance to establish exactly what the interface spec is on both devices being connected, and then selecting a cable compatible with BOTH devices.
Unfortunately, downward compatibility is never guaranteed either.

18Gbps is Hdmi v2. The ones from Checkers are also 18Gbps and as long as you get ones rated at that spec you should be fine. Hdmi 2 partially supports things like dynamic HDR and such. Hdmi 2.1 is 48Gbps

Yeah, eventually I had to look up the specific bandwidth requirements. Relying solely on the "speed" rating is not a guarantee and even the Ellies cables that worked and are rated at 18Gbps are clealy not "Ultra" (as the packaging says) according to the below.
