A computer dealer suggested to me that a computer screen with HDMI in should work for DSTV HD. That seems to me a little too easy an option. Is there some catch? Has anyone tried this?

It makes logical sense since the PVR / STB contain receivers and HDMI in to a TV screen works for using the screen on a computer.

As long as the computer screen supports HDCP you'll be good to go.

It works on my cheapie Samsung HD P2250 monitor using a HDMI to DVI cable as it has no HDMI input.

Obviously the sound has to be taken from the audio ouputs of the decoder in this case.

Yes, I did this with my media center. It works exactly the same. Finding an HDMI to DVI converter might be hard but I got one online for cheap.

Using a Samsung P2770H (?) and it works pretty well. Obviously you will need to cater for the sound.

Just make sure you play sound through rca to hts then if pc monitor has no built in speakers

If you're using an HDPVR and an HTS... why on gods relatively ungreen earth would you lower yourself to using RCA to transmit the audio?!?!?!?!!? :wtf:

I saw somewhere a claim that computer screens above a certain size are now subject to extra import duties and therefore now more expensive than TVs of the same size. This story is not 100% correct: the actual position apparently is that computer screens of any size with anything better than an old-fashioned analogue connector attract the same duties as a TV screen. This seems to me a very misguided form of protectionism. What fraction of TV screens on sale today are locally made? Why should everyone with a need for a modern computer screen pay for this? You could argue that a large TV is an non-productivity purchase, but most buyers of large computer screens buy them to aid productivity.

Does anyone know where the actual info from the government is, since I've found several variants on this, and the article I point to here is undated? Why can't people posting "facts" for the public not attribute their sources?

No please can you describe how ill view the channels after attaching the dstv to the windows PC using hdmi
I would first get a time machine. Check dates of posts, asking a question of a 12 year old post isn't really wise
