HDMI Splitter problem

For the past year, I've had a two-way HDMI splitter splitting the signal from my HD PVR decoder to the TV in my lounge and bedroom without any problems.

Now for the past two weeks, I cannot get the splitter to work at all.

It's not the device, because I tested a spare Ellies two-way splitter that I had, and it also doesn't work, and the splitter does a decent job splitting the HDMI signal from my laptop to the TVs.

It's also not the cables, because I tested three cables (10m, 5m and 3m) independently - from the HD PVR direct to the TV it works fine, but as soon as it's diverted through the splitter there's no signal.

So I'm assuming something is going wrong with the HDMI 'handshake' between the devices, but why would this suddenly appear when all had been working fine for a year?
(The TV's are both Samsung FHD Series 5's)

Any ideas?

Splitter dude. Both your splitters are prob buggered. They fragile and prob because they cheapies . Get another and test

I have ellies splitters. I hate them. They suck. I wish they would all just die already so I could get something else

Had the same problem with a Ellies - replaced it and new one also didn't work. Very sensitive and if the power source isn't in the plug 100% you can forget.

So my matrix arrived yesterday. Set it up was easy. Created a Control4 driver and now I can watch any 4 inputs to any 2 outputs. Am running an Ellies HDMI over Cat6 to my lounge and have had no issues whats so ever. No handshaking, hdcp, edid errors.

So far so good.

Also just checked, it passes the Dolby True HD as stated. I am so happy

BTW I finally tested the whole setup using a different HD PVR decoder and... it worked! So it seems to be my HD PVR decoder that is the culprit. The splitters are working just perfectly, but for some reason my decoder won't do a HDCP handshake with them at all.

Has anyone ever had this problem before?
I'll be taking my decoder into Multichoice, but it's going to be hard to explain the issue to them (taking along the actual splitters, asking them to test it on one of their other decoders... sigh)

I have the ellies splitter connected from my HDPVR to an A/V amp and a tv in another room. Every time the amp is turned on or off, the TV loses connection. This is very frustrating as the whole point of a splitter is to watch in two places at the same time, but its nearly impossible. The amp is not affected when anything happens on the tv though. Is it my splitter or TV or Amp?
