What are you guys doing to do when they stop making plasma? :(

You're so passionate about it - I'm just a little worried :/

Since when are they going to stop making plasmas?

Oh, I foresee another straw-man covered in crow poop.

Which claims have you got a problem with?

My claims:

TV/sport is a lot more than marginally better on plasma
Sport has motion blur on LCDs less than 100Hz
Plasma as a technology produces better colours and blacks (i.e. most expensive plasma vs most expensive LCD)
Plasma as a technology has a faster "response time" leading to no motion blur that is synonymous with less than 100Hz LCDs
Plasma is wide screen

Anything I forgot?

So what you're saying here - is if you buy a decent LCD, half the issues are gone?

Well, I'll be watching movies on my KURO  ... couldn't care whether anybody else would never get a chance to buy one again ...

Hey, I really don't care about the plasma/LCD war ... I'm with you on the facts that each tech has its pros and cons ... for the OP on that budget, I am just suggesting the 42" plasma as the best bang-for-buck option.

And, yeah, you are right about humming on some plasmas ... my old LG has been annoying at times.

On the KURO, it has no humming whatsoever, but I have read reports of humming on them as well ... LG also has some image retention issues (really not much), whereas the KURO has absolutely zero IR (honestly not exaggerating).

My Sammy's buzzing is only audible up close to the plasma - Dolby obviously forgot LancelotSA covering this a while back.

This would only be an issue sitting 1m from the TV without audio.

It's insignificant Dolby. Clutching at straws are we.

You're right ; I'm being too harsh.

I just noticed that Sony, Philips, Pioneer, Toshiba and a handful of others have stopped - leaving just ... three. Rumours are around the LG is to drop off shortly leave ... two. Maybe those two can revive plasma? Realistically though - I think in a few years we won't have plasma screens :(

Yup, knew it. That straw-man is so covered in sh*t now that it's not even keeping the crows away.

This is how I read it :

A decent LCD will be 100hz or more - making your pong, golf and tennis statement invalid.
A decent LCD (ie 'C' Series) also has very decent black levels - higher than certain plasma
A decent LCD is also wide screen.
A decent LCD won't IR or burn - whether 12, 24, 48 or 72 hours
A decent LCD has a higher contrast ratio has they have deeper blacks and brighter whites

Basically - a decent LCD puts some of your claims down

Please quote me where I have said anything but that.

Who cares ...

Incidentally, the two left will be:
Samsung - iirc biggest flatscreen sales at the moment and actually produces more than half of the panels for other manufacturers, yeah, they probably don't have a clue what they're doing ...
Panasonic - largest electronics company on the planet.

Don't think plasma will disappear soon ... 3D will make sure of that ... 3D really favours plasma, much less crosstalk and flickering. Every AV show picked the Panasonic 3D sets as the hands down winners.

Lord.

Buzz off now Dolby, not responding to you any further today, I'm sick and tired of your purposeful obtuseness and lack of comprehension. Go back and read my posts while you're twiddling your thumbs in my absence

Cheerio!

Tough when someone knocks every bit of junk you say, eh?

I do understand ...

Second one I would say for value for money ...
As far as the first choice ... could you add another R3K and rather go for the LA46C650 ?

Of course, as always ... go LOOK at them side-by-side, under the same lighting conditions as you have at home.

On that note, I'm off to Cats Digital to go check out the 46C750 ...

Will have a look at it. Thing is, the two in this thread confused me now. I always thought Plasma is really bad for gaming, now Postman says it's better. I will have to go to a game or so and look at the quality of both types, however 50" sounds so awesome :D

Depends what it's for mainly. Plasma will be best for TV and sport. If the room is bright then rather get a 6 Series Samsung LCD, muuuch better than 5 Series for TV/sport.

Definitely go in and check both out with the various sources you plan on running.

Will be mostly for gaming and movies and series, not really into sport! It is in a darkish room, so no troubles with bright lights!

Would like to hear whAt you think of gaming on plasma. I haven't gamed on plasma but apparently it's awesome seeing as plasma response time is faster and generally has better colours and deeper blacks (6Series LCD will probably have as good blacks and colours, not 5 Series though). Maybe someone who's gamed on plasma can comment. Wasp, TYR? Plasma will definitely suit your dark room. Remember Cats will probably be quote bright inside.

Sent from my iPhone using my fingers

:D

... or Dolby?

Gamed with Xbox 360 and PS3 on both a LCD and plasma?

Or am I excluded?

Yep you're excluded cause your plasma was like 4yr old and hd ready etc. And burn in problems.

Unless you gamed on a new gen plasma, possibly FHD too? Then you're included:)
