HDTV Choice

My plasma was Nov 2007 ...

But you're correct with HD Ready and FHD.

I'll sit this one out and watch ... :)

So was mine :-( HD ready and April 2007 though out of those two choices hmmm... The plasma is tempting

He's itching to reply ...

Trying his best to ignore me ... and ignore the fact the B and C series Samsung LCDs have deeper blacks, have no issues with motion due to 100h, don't hum at altitude, have a greater life span, use less power, are brighter, have a higher contrast, have no burn in issues ...

*baits*

You seem to be applying the factual advantages of plasma technology (best for motion, deepest blacks and highest contrast) to your double-the-price-of-a-bigger-plasma, mid-high end LCD; where the vastly cheaper plasma would match or outperform your double-the-price LCD's performance at TV and sport.

If I was a buyer in the market for the best type of TV for TV and sport, I'd flush your above advice right down the chain. More reasons apart from above are that I'd be watching the TV with the audio turned on; the 100,000 hours of viewing before half life wouldn't bother me as that's more than 20 years of average viewing; I could be doing other activities which would leave a bigger carbon footprint than watching plasma at home; my room would actually have curtains/blinds; and lastly burn-in would not affect me as I would use the plasma in accordance to the manual that came with it.

Gaming on my Plasma is flippin awesome. I can't game all the time on it, cause my wife watches her programs, so then i'm onto my LCD. The plasma colors and depth are just so awesome and much better on my plasma, and please note, i am the first one to admit i have an older model LCD, so the newer ones are going to be much better. My brother has the sony KLV550, last years model, and his PS3 gaming looks a lot better than my LCD. Only thing i have to do is push the brightness up on the plasma. The blacks are so much stronger than my LCD, that sometimes it's too dark, but that is purely the difference between the 2. LCD is very bright, and the plasma a lot darker. Input is great, minimal lag. Want to buy another one only for gaming, but budget is low atm. I have no hassles or worries about IR or "burn-in", but i would advise against PC use on the plasma. It doesn't like it. Otherwise it's all good. Any IR left after a game or TV, is gone in a minute or 2, either with the scroll function or changing channels.

after about an hour in game and another hour in AV...

the verdict (for my needs)

plasma wins

will be making a purchase shortly

:)

Sweet! Just wondering if you perhaps were able to compare the plasma with sport/TV on a higher-end LCD?

i did indeed.. cant remember the model number, but it was 100hz and to be honest I would still go with the plasma. They had tennis on both :) also some cricket

then he moved some fancy ass lcd which was like 20k he said was "much higher" than 100hz but I still preferred the plasma

who knows... maybe its just a sport thing when you have a SD signal

Assuming you have accurate vision, man, I'd hate to be an LCD fanboi now. :D

ok so bit of a problem now...

turns out Game had the PS42C430 (R5799) and AV had the PS42C431 (R5999)

what on earth is the difference?

Why would you hate to be an LCD fanboi?

Its envitable anyone is going to take the larger screen?

If I'd been told ; Mr Dolby you can take you 46" LCD - or this 60" plasma for the same price, even I may have bought plasma again

And out of interest - was the LCD this dull, grey black, full on blurring that's made out?

I see TYR admitted its not quite as Postman makes out
