Head to head

You can be using Windows, Mac or Linux, or even your WiFi-enabled cellphone with it, while Neotel's phone only connects to machines with Windows

Ummm, not true. Neotel works on LINUX and since OSX is BSD based, you can get it working too. You can config it with pppconfig ... :p

The correct statement is rather that a Ethernet device is more convianiant than a USB but ironically in LINUX or BSD you will use a similar approach to configuring a Neotel USB phone ...

MTN still too expensive.

MTN is still way too expensive at the moment. They must certainly focus on the 1 gig accounts at the moment. Maybe an option with :

1 gig data
access device
lower out of bundle rate.
Data rollover

R199 per month

will have people rushing over to MTN.

DXL - Mobile

unless MTN comes out with uncapped + bundled minutes better than Neotel's R999 - i don't see MTN being serious enough!

Neotel's device is a phone, so in a head-to-head comparison, MTN would have a slight edge because you're able to plug in a cordless phone, whereas with Neotel's device you have to use its handset.
Keep rubbing it in .. perhaps Neotel will eventually catch a wakeup.

One thing I applaud MTN is for listening to what the consumer wanted! And hopefully MTN's data rates will drop when they become less reliant on Telkom. Remember Neotel gets their data at cost, not wholesale.

What is up with these cellular networks... for some reason they seem to be too scared to lower their prices, I still can't believe that their expences are high enough to justify what they charge. Lets just hope for all our sakes that Neotel sticks to their guns with their pricing, if they keep it up, these over-prices and overrated cellular networks will have no choice. And yea, we wont even bring hellskum into the equation, they are a lost cause, the only thing they have going for them is WiMAX, which you can't get anyway.

sorry neotel, if you don't increase coverage quickly the others will catch up and... u know

I think Neotel is still a much better option when considering reliability and price. From my experiences, MTN HSDPA is highly unreliable.

MTN has no reason to be so expensive other than they can get away with it... for that reason I wish everyone would just boycott them.

I think the cellphone companies woudl like to play int he 10 gig and up package bracket. But wont as their basestations can't take it. Once their fibre rings and seacom come online then i'm sure the cell companies could become more of a threat to telkom than neotel might ever be.

But time will tell.

However, that's where the competition ends, because for R499 you can get 5GB/month from Neotel and MTN doesn't even compete against that.

Lol. MTN fires a blank in the broadband war ;-)
