I have'nt needed to buy an external headunit for ages :/

The last two I bought were a Kenwood Mask and a Kenwood D Mask. The one before those was Sony. I'd guess Sony - but haven't heard anything good or bad about them :/

However, the preouts should have a high voltage if you're going to using some other high end equipment like RF - so try get a decent voltage.

Dolby Dude...ALPINE head units are the shizniz...jeeez did you SEE Alpine Decks?

cmon dobly, ideas?

clarion, RF what else?

Alpine
Clarion
Sony (if you are on a budget)
Wharfedale (for when the recession has really hit your pocket badly)

i have a 90's era Clarion front loader... works perfectly... i plan on replacing it with an Alpine deck

I've got a Sony BT3700U and the convenience of the Bluetooth is amazing.

When I think Clarion and especially Alpine, I think 'old' ... and when it comes to Alpines, ugly as well ;) Do you have a link to a new model Alpine head unit?

My built in amplifier is actually Alpine :/

RCA Pre-out voltage:

Usually this spec is next to pre-out spec. It is measured in VOLTS (which we'll go over later). Basically, the higher the voltage, the LOUDER the music will be at your amp. Don't look at this as "free power" because it is not. In addition, the higher the voltage, the less noise that will be introduced to your system. Again, this spec doesn't matter if you don't plan on using an external amp. If you do plan on using an external amp, try to find the HIGHEST voltage you can. 2 volts is basic, 4 is standard for a good unit, sometimes you'll see units with 5 volts. I know Eclipse units have 8V(!) pre-outs. In short, more voltage=less noise and cleaner sound.

^^^^^ As I said earlier, if you're using high ends amps and speakers - make sure the pre out voltage is decent

Dolby, I read an article a few months back by Joel Kopping I think in an SnS mag. It dealt with head units and how to choose one. The RCA voltage need not be as high as possible but rather the signal to noise ratio. He mentioned that the most expensive deck in the world costing around R200k IIRC had like 2V pre-outs.

Alpine is ugly :/

Cool KSINGH ... just giving my advice. I'll only mention if you're partnering with decent equipment, which you are. Wouldn't want you to have a bottleneck due to it.

that looks awesome. prolly over R2k for that.
