Heart Rate

can be many things that make it go higher,
are you a smoker? drinker?
medical conditions?

this is why heart rate monitoring was reserved for Medical experts in the past,

at least they could tell if it was signs of a serious issue, or just the fact you watching it constantly
and mentally manipulating the results

I’m not monitoring.

It started giving me ‘high heart rate while inactive. Maybe get it checked’

And in hind sight, that was caused by illness
 
Evidently it works better by not giving false positive on heart rate readings…

There is the new Ultra just for the likes of yourself.

It wasn’t a false positive.

And when Apple can overtake Garmin in the premium watch segment, then I’ll relook at my choice.
 
They say a normal rate is between 60 - 100 … but my Garmin has been giving me abnormal heart rate warnings since I got it a ago. I’m going to see someone to be safe - but check an average day View attachment 1380749

I’m not an active person so I’m unfit - but surely this is too high? This is at home …
I had something similar to this and a EKG showed that I am suffering from AFIB (Atrium fibrillation) a condition where the upper heart chamber fibrillate instead of its normal beat. It is a serious condition that needs treatment. I suggest you see a doctor as soon as possible.
 
60 is quite low

Then weight also and what youre doing. If you feet a tight chest (if not exercising) frequently then get it checked however....

2 friends of mine now had been doing annual check ups and all checked fine then cramps and cancer and both died within six months of the same cancer.

But then a 7 y old had a heart attack and died too. So moral is...if its your time its your time...

Till then. Enjoy your life and stop being worried about a moody watch which may indeed end up giving you a heart-attack from the stress. Everyone is different.

Keep in mind that many factors can influence heart rate, including:

Age

Fitness and activity levels

Being a smoker

Having cardiovascular disease, high cholesterol or diabetes

Air temperature

Body position (standing up or lying down, for example)

Emotions

Body size

Medications

Although there's a wide range of normal, an unusually high or low heart rate may indicate an underlying problem. Consult your doctor if your resting heart rate is consistently above 100 beats a minute (tachycardia) or if you're not a trained athlete and your resting heart rate is below 60 beats a minute (bradycardia) — especially if you have other signs or symptoms, such as fainting, dizziness or shortness of breath.
 
Atrial Fibrillation or Afib is quite common and not as dangerous as one may think.

Your heart rate can vary between 40 and 240.

Measuring the pulse at your wrist is not accurate if in Afib as the Ventricles can beat when empty if the Atrials are vibrating instead of pumping. .
The actual rate can only be measured by ECG.

When your heart is in afib there is a high risk of the blood clotting in the atrium which may result in a stroke. I am told that afib is the cause of around 90% of stroke cases.

I preferer the advice and treatment of my cardiologist I have been treated for Afib and arrhythmia for around 7 years now and I will stick to his treatment.
herewith a short extraction form some of the reading material he gave when I was first diagnosed

Atrial Fibrillation In atrial fibrillation, the right and left atria no longer contract together in a coordinated fashion and the heart beat (pulse) becomes irregular. Atrial fibrillation can cause you to have symptoms such as feeling tired (fatigue), lightheaded, short of breath, or have a fluttering sensation in your chest (palpitations). It is also possible that you may have no symptoms. Doctors often prescribe medications to prevent the pulse rate from getting too fast. These medications typically help patients feel well and able to do normal activities despite having atrial fibrillation. However, despite taking these medications (or trying these medications) some patients still feel poorly due to atrial fibrillation and require additional medications or special heart procedures (known as cardioversion and ablation) to try to stop atrial fibrillation altogether and keep the heart in a normal rhythm.
Atrial Fibrillation, Heart Blood Clots, and the Risk of Stroke Because right and left atria no longer contract normally in atrial fibrillation, the blood flow within the atria can be slower than normal. This change in blood flow may also cause blood clots to form. During atrial fibrillation, most blood clots that originate in the heart develop in the left atrial appendage, which is a pouch-like structure that is part of the left atrium.

Not all atrial fibrillation patients are at equal risk for developing left atrial appendage blood clots and stroke. Factors that increase the risk include advancing age (particularly ages greater than 75 years), high blood pressure, heart failure, diabetes, other cardiovascular (heart) disease, and a prior stroke or mini-stroke (“transient ischemic attack” or TIA).
 
Here in the UK cardiologists do not treat the electrical system of the heart. That is solely the job of Electrophysiologists.
It is similar to a plumber and electrician. One cannot do the other's job.

Only EP's do ablations to treat Afib or AFlutter.

It's the same in South Africa. There are also a few cardiologists that can do a Whatchman LLA closure Device implantation to prevent clots forming the Left Atrial expenditure.
 
So the update is that the watch accuracy is fine I tried swapping with both a Fitbit & Apple Watch

I was pretty ill those few weeks and my heart rate started spiking a few days before I even felt hat I was ill, and took a few days to drop after I was ill. Sitting here at the PC now it's around 75-80 as opposed to the 100+ before. My resting average over the past 7 days is 61.

Don't want to frighten you, but if you are experiencing any other symptoms, you should go get a check up with your GP. One of my fellow triathlete's husband started getting unusual BP warnings from his Garmin and it turned out he had a massive heart issue. He died over a year from the first warning (he needed another heart and didn't get one in time, very sadly), so I would take these warnings seriously.

Can you give us a source for that table?

When your heart is in afib there is a high risk of the blood clotting in the atrium which may result in a stroke. I am told that afib is the cause of around 90% of stroke cases.

So I landed up in hospital this week, heart was all over the place, in the bush, so GP got cardio on the line from the Capital and they stabilized me over the phone. But the GP explained exactly this to me. High risk of blood clots forming due to blood going stagnant and causing a stroke. As I lay there, a drip on the one arm, ecg on my chest, the nurses were pointing to my chest as you could physically see my heart bouncing around…

I felt like crap! They put me on Seven different pills, stuff to thin me blood to prevent clotting and placed me under observation. Guess the bender this weekend was not a good idea.

I was released with a big bag of meds, Have a ecg app in the morning and will be in the Capital by end of the week to do tests with Cardiologist.

GP was saying I am lucky, my heart warned me as a lot of folk die from strokes caused by this and do not even realize they had Cardio arrhythmia…

as for me, scared as ****, feeling better and big lifestyle choices to be made..
