Heat pump, Good Idea?

I suppose they sre designed to deal with the hest they generate

jacuzzi setups use contacter in this way to power 4kw elements the conracts of the thermostat lasts longer since it only deals with the tiny lioad of contacter/ modern conttollers can provide signal not carry high load

And other industrisl usecases also use it in this manner since fragile electronic switches can't handle high load so they are the middleman
 
Ive just ordered a 4.5kw heat pump to connect to our 200l geyser and run it off our solar system.

Im keen to see what this does to our consumption.

4.5 super? Which should give about the same as 5.4

Initial quote I got from a plumber suggested a 3.6kw, the price difference between 3.6kw and 4.5kw was around R2500 and for that marginal difference I thought better to go for the bigger unit to speed up water heating.

That little bit extra does help :), I've got a 4.5 for the last week and a half now.
 
Anyone know if there are any other options for hot water heat pumps besides the ITS and Alliance ones. Seems like these guys have the market locked in.

Where are all the other brands?
 
No luck yet getting anyone in Cape Town that supplies the Deye units.

I might just wait until the new Stiebel Eltron units arrive which should hopefully be next year (according to my previous query with them) and then see if the market has opened up a bit too.

They are making the reasonable call not to invest in a market that has near-zero residential demand.

If you're worried about brand reputation or reliability, but not economics, why not just buy two or three, for redundancy?
 
I have ITS pumps and they're well supported by ITS. The amount I've saved is big.

Heat pumps just work and they work well and reliably. The standard element is still retained in the geyser so not too sure what the worry is. Also what is wrong with ITS? I have seen no negatives around them.

Space is a concern, that's why the Stiebel Eltron units are appealing as it's an all-in-one unit that I can just mount on a small slab outside - the installation is also a lot less involved so less chance of a dodgy install. They are also specifically tuned to be ultra quiet.

You pay for extra it, but then again it's not that much more than the homegrown brands equivalents.

I bought a unit from Enerflow in Potchefstroom 5 years ago. Still going strong.
