Never a bad idea to add solar hot water heating, especially in SA.
One example of when it's a bad idea: When you're a small family with a cheap-ass geyser spending under R300 on electricity for hot water, unless you can replace that with a medium-term investment of under R20k.
Not sure how that is what I spend... R300 will get you only about 60l hot water a day with a 150l geyser. Somehow it is enough if you have young kids and don't do a makeshift sauna every day. And use the kettle in the kitchen.
