Help !! 17K to spend on laptop

Only get a macbook if you want it specifically for the brand, otherwise it's a waste of mone IMHO
 
I checked the specs on a Macbook, built one on dell.co.za - I was out by R1000. Not so much a waste of money... well, not for the R28000 MacBook Pro 17", anyway. :)

Thanks guys, I have a voucher for 17k, dont mind spending a bit more and was looking at the 17" HP but is it better than the macbook? What do I need it for? Well just want a good machine for the money.
Are there any Tablet notebooks that you could recommend ion terms of HP, Acer etc?

I marked the good things with green and bad things with red and stuff you just need to know about before choosing with Orange. But the machines are almost identical.

Value for money the HP is better. But something I don't like is that it is shipped with Windows Vista Home, you at least want Windows Vista Bussiness or Ultimate, IMHO.

But like other people asked what do you want to do with the machine? Will you have Windows application that you must be able to work on or is it going to be a toy(Email, word processing, internet surfing).

Also remember if you want to play games Windows will give you more options. But I'm seeing the tides turn and some nice games gets released for Mac and Windows these days.

The ACER ASPIRE 7720G-602G50MNULT looks like the best value for money(If your not a bleeding edge gamer) IMHO and it ships with Windows Vista Ultimate.

If I had the money I would bite the bullet and buy myself the Macbook, because it runs Unix(I'm just geeky like that). Or if I'm sure I will be able to run Ubuntu on the machine without a problem buy a normal windows notebook, but you need to be geeky for this option and willing to learn.

IMO Home Premium is great. Ultimate for me just takes more space.
Also, the Core 2 Duo 8 series mobile is better than a 7 series in that Acer...

Thanks a mil for that. I suppose the HP is the better option in the end. Value for money there is nothing to compare.

..have 7 clients using it from beginner to advanced user level, all extremely satisfied.

ps - would never purchase any expensive pc related item from ic as their prices are inflated and their service sucks!
