Help !! 17K to spend on laptop

IMO Home Premium is great. Ultimate for me just takes more space.
Also, the Core 2 Duo 8 series mobile is better than a 7 series in that Acer...

The only reason why I recommend Ultimate or Business is for the Microsoft Advantage program that allows you to downgrade to Windows XP Professional at no extra cost(I do like my options, and with the criticism regarding Vista I keep my options open).

I know the 8 series is better but is it R 2 000 better? One must also note if you compare the Acer against the HP and Macbook that the Acer only has a nVidia GeForce 8400M, so one must also take it into consideration.

For me it all boils down to value for money and in my opinion get yourself the Acer and then you have a extra R 1000 to buy yourself a carry bag or other IT goodies.

Regards,

Thanks a mil for that. I suppose the HP is the better option in the end. Value for money there is nothing to compare.

Yip if you are not going for the Macbook and you have the Extra R 1000 the HP will not be a bad buy, but the same goes for the Acer if you want to save R 2000.

Maybe you can find the Acer and HP at a Incredible Connection store and ask a sales representative to run a benchmark on both computer, and see the difference for youself?

There where critics of xp when it released as well, yet today people recommend it.

killadoob, I do know XP also had a lot of criticisms when it was compared to Windows 98 and Windows 2000. But people can now look back at Windows 98 and mostly everybody would agree XP was the better operating system, I don't think this will happen with Vista.

I'm also not a Micrsoft basher, I did work daily on a Windows Vista machine for 1 year and it really annoyed me. I'm now a happy Windows XP user and I decided I will wait for Windows 7 or even try to jump ship to a Unix-like platform if possible.

Regards,

Thanks guys, I have a voucher for 17k, dont mind spending a bit more and was looking at the 17" HP but is it better than the macbook? What do I need it for? Well just want a good machine for the money.
Are there any Tablet notebooks that you could recommend ion terms of HP, Acer etc?

Things you should look at are:
GPU: something that is at least there... you might have kids, or you might want to play a few games
CPU:I recommend anything better then the 8000series for note book(best would be a 9000 series)
Ram:4gb +
and a nice 17" screen with a high res

Sorry mate, not on there, sadly only at Rectron. :(:( Wanted a Tablet notebook.

Well if you can buy outside of Incredible Connection you have lots of options. But life is unfair and you only have a voucher for Incredible Connection... Why not try to sell it to someone at the shop? :D

I'm sure someone will help you out, but then you will need a out going personality and you mustn't be afraid to throw your name(Actually your face, because now one will know your name) in the mud!

Why don't you try to request a tablet from Incredible Connection, and see if you can afford one?

Oh and for ****** sake what do you want to do with the machine?

Hmm i would go for a macbook pro 15"... these windows machines have just started to suck on vista...

Then a tablet will be great, but I don't expect to much gaming on it.

Fill out the request form and let us know what you got at the end of the day. Oh by the way the "try selling it at a store option" is still available ;)

Regards and good luck,

Is the tablet a good machine

I don't know the specifications, but normally it is not a bad machine because it is in a league of its own. Post the specifications if you want more feedback. My next machine will be a tablet with a Unix-like operating system if money is no problem.

Tried to sell him the Unix option but Apple hardware is a bit pricey.

ok, if you want:work, internet and a bit of gaming, then get something with a 8series cpu, AT LEAST 2 gb ram, and something with 8600gt and up! nothing less, as anything less will just involve you playing games with really low graphics and no one likes that

Why don't you get a cheaper laptop and spend the xtra cash on something else, system, games, gaming console, monitors etc. . .

Personally i would go with HP, very nice laptop for the price.

Would also like to know the benefits of a mac?

They are using intel cpu's

It has a smaller screen and same specs, what does the mac OS do that the windows OS does not do?

15.4" seems better than a 13.3" but thats just me :p
