A bud of mine has moved into a house with a Victron Multiplus 48v 5000w 70A inverter/charger.

What happens if his load exceeds 5000w? Does it simply pass through the extra required power from the grid (like Sunsynk), or is there some other way it handles this? What is the max he can draw before getting worried?

And what is the 70A for - max battery charging?

Usually limited by the wiring and circuit breakers.

If it's a 60A breaker then about 13kw.
