Good afternoon. As the Cell C Internet.org promotion started today, I went and tried to connect to facebook and the other website, that are suppose to be zero rated, but the connection keeps getting reset. I was wondering if someone has noticed or experienced the same thing.

Its the same on PC and on Mobile.

Network: Cell C (Roaming Vodacom 3G)

No issues here, but haven't checked my balance for this.

Hmm. I think that is what happened to me as well. Facebook simply did not want to update early in the morning. Started working later, but with a warning about data use when you click on an external url. Luckily the warning can be disabled. I have not checked the impact on my data bundle.

I think there might be a problem with the network this side, will call them and here what they say.

So you guys are really using Internet.org and have zero issue with unencrypted traffic and Facebook's initiative in essence eaves-dropping on all your traffic (i.e. whatever you do on OLX, Gumtree etc)?

I never felt that Facebook did anything charitable - so if you are not aware of what it means, starting reading this. Thankfully no banks have decided to sign up yet, but I am sure some disaster will happen sooner or later. India for example has started rejecting a similar initiative.

Im totally aware of the privacy issues involved, I just wanna keep my PC connected to FB. And I dont like that Internet.org doesnt support SSL or TLS, kinda dodgy aint it

How do you do this on the PC? It was my understanding that on mobile devices you need to download the Internet.org website and the browse the supported sites within that app.

Surely your other activity isnt piped thru internet.org? The same as free whatapp (owned by fb btw)?

The concern comes with net neutrality considerations that gives facebook benefit over its competitors not free to access. But fb is taking the initiative here and there are benefits attached here.

From today, until end of August, Cell C has zero-rated some websites, including Facebook, in partnership with Internet.org. The Internet.org app will be available from 01st of September if im not mistaken.

So unfair.... Wonder what areas this is actually allowed because most areas I tried it does not allow only edge. Sigh

Yeah, it aint fair at all. You can check the coverage map at the Cell C website. The 3G roaming deal is very new, so maybe its still to come in your area

Something else i noticed is that when i chose vc as roaming my apn settings were on virgin mobile somehow and i had to change that. Make sure your apn is 'internet' and no username/password.

Ah okay, will be interesting to see if people then actually install the app.
