Help choosing cheapy sound card

Hi guys, my on board sound is creating a hissing sound through my Roccat Kave headset, also I think the center channel is pretty much gone. I'm looking for a cheap 5.1 sound card which could give roughly equivalent sound to the onboard (ASUS P6T motherboard). I will be using logitech 5.1's, Sennheiser HD439's and my Roccats with it. I would also preferably like to stay under R400 ( is this reasonable for onboard level quality?) .

Any sound card is better than onboard sound, 90% of the time IMO

If you have a 1 x PCIe x1 slot on your motherboard I suggest this one: ASUS Xonar DGX - R363.00 + R75.00 (shipping) = R438.00

If you do not have a PCIe x1 slot this one should do: ASUS Xonar DG - R339.00 + R75.00 (shipping) = R414.00


A PCIe x1 slot looks like the little white slot in this picture:

Thanks for the reply, I have a PCIe x1 slot, will have a look at the DGX, do you think Asus cards are better than the creatives in this range? I know nothing about either so really just being curious.

I wouldn't say, that unfortunately Creative isn't being shipped to SA anymore, IMO Creative is better than ASUS in sound cards.

There is only this one that get's shipped here: Creative Sound Blaster VX, 5.1 - R171.00

It doesn't look like a bad card for the price, I'm just not sure how it compares to the ASUS ones.

Also I should of said this in my first post, but I highly recommend you choose the DGX over the DG since normal PCI slots are getting fazed out it seems.

Had a look at what people have said and they recommend the Asus cards you mentioned over that VX. Do you have any experience with the DG or DGX?

No unfortunately not, I have an old Creative card. Best bet is the DGX, if you don't see the point in paying more for it over the DG then get the DG.
 
I'll have a look at what local stores have to offer, if none here have either then I will order the DGX. Thanks for the advice.
