I'd like to register a family domain.co.za

Initially just for email, which I'd like done through Google.

Whats the cheapest, easiest way to set it up?

Dammit :( wanted to get a family domain with a decent on-line service. I suppose it can still be setup to use [email protected] and just add the account inside gmail to download and send.

My parents have had to cancel their weird telkom address after many years, and I see my dad has gone with a [email protected]

I need something that I can stick with for a long time, old people require retraining often if things change.

Where would be the best place to buy the domain so long to avoid it being snatched up? Made the mistake in the past where I searched for a domain, a week later it was gone.

* keeping in mind I want to host and control email somewhere.

Depends on what is changed. Signing up with communication services, usually locks you to the agreed terms and you don't have to accept new terms on these services, well Google Mail provides this choice. Then there is the aspect on how the email is accessed, web-gui or client?

Talk about different pricing, R50 - R100 per year :p

Just trying to see who gives me control over MX records (thats what I need right? Can't remember this crap)

Depends on the provider, some DNS managers are only available with hosting plans, give them a call or send them an email to provide your with an appropriate solution catering the budget.

Hey Hey

We setup our family.co.za domain years ago and last year moved everything over to elitehost.
Costs R75 domain renewal each year and R35 a month for the entry level hosting plan with unlimited storage / email accounts.
Can use whatever POP3 or IMAP client you like plus 3 different webmail thingies for online mail work.
Month to month, so can upgrade / migrate etc. without a hassle.

Maybe give them a looksee if this is what you have in mind...

can also recommend, fast local and cheap.

You can do this with the built-in hosting service from any of the local registrars for less than R100 a month.

I use Websurf.co.za but you can also use Web Africa if you like.

Normally bundled with a bunch of email addresses although small mailboxes.

you need a good interface or you just willing to pay?, get a cheap email , forward all of them go gmail, send as that domain DONE, thats clever gmail.

Afrihost or hetzner. I've used both and support is good

Registration with a .co.za domain with Afrihost is free, and you can get basic hosting for R9 pm.

You can also try .live.com or outlook.com
Not many accounts are created, so chances are you can get a decent [email protected] or outlook.com
