I have a huge problem.

I inserted my flash drive today and was presented with a screen that said my flash drive isn't formatted, do I a want to format it now.

I have NB salary info on it. Is there any way I can access, even one last time?

Yip. Data recovery software. Try Ontrack. Google is your best friend.
@ Juggy: If you say no, the flashdisk will show, but will be inaccesible

Thanks, I will try that. I have googled, but either you have to buy upfront or all limited to what you can do on a trial.

Thanks Franna

Some help needed here please

I dl'd testdisk and am not quite sure what to do.

My drive is a flash drive not a HDD. Will it have a partition and if so I would assume that it is Intel.

I select analyse and it says that there are no partitions found or selected for recovery.
If I add a partition, will it overwrite any info that is there already?

If the software doesnt specify flash media I wouldnt risk it. I know something like spinrite would utterly destroy the drive simply by the way it works (and cos Steve Gibson said it would :D).

Could you recommend a utility that would work on a flash drive?

I am desperate here

If you are able, plug it into a linux box - I have managed to retrieve data from three or four stuffed flash drives when XP refused to even recognise the partition.

Linux was able to read the drive normally, each time!

mmmm, you might be onto something there.

I tried to format it within windows and wasn't able to.

Boot the PC up with a Linux Live CD aka Knoppix.Normally it works like a charm

OOO..there is another program which is about 50mb to download,i think its hp something, just google it or a canon program not sure but this is the best tool for the job..i used another program to fix my corrupted mp3 player.
here is a tip..when windows says stop device first before taking it out do that please..lol(ITS NOW SAFE TO REMOVE YOUR DEVICE)..LKL

im not sure what OS your using but try stick it in a pc that runs vista

vista gives you 2 option to format or cancel where as xp only gives you the one option

Your partition/filesystem is probably damaged, formatting, playing with it will most likely worsen it, your best bet would be to put it in read-only mode (if your flash drive has that switch) and use a tool like File Scavenger to try and recover the info you need to a separate drive.

I do that all the time, but it was my sister that didn't know/do it. She now does. :o

I will try all these options.

I am running XP not Vista. I will need to find someone with it to try.

Thanks for all the help.
