Help getting into Wndows

Had a similar problem. I just booted off the XP disc and when it got to the screen that said i already had XP on it, I hit F8 (Repair) and let it do the repair.

Had to do a quick setup afterward, but was able to access the machine within about 45mins.

May work for you, goodluck.

I find that also as a good way to repair the problem,i dont see how eitia wont do that.
ntpass has reset everything.SO its now to get a program to repair the registry files thats damaged.Well you have 3 choices.:)

Tried recovery console already.

So I tried the windows repair install ... and it gets stuck on the install when it says 39 minutes, and now I can't even log into windows cause it keeps going to the install and getting stuck at the same point. It doesn't actually freeze ... it just continues to not progress.

you have a serious issue there.i could tell you to do a new installation and then delete the existing windows and replace it with a new windows, the only thing is some programs wont work anymore due to new registry values..etc,but at least all your documents will be intact like music ...etc

Get Ultimate Boot CD: www.ubcd4win.com

Boot up with it, after you've compiled it.

Open the Explorer application, create a new folder in the C: drive, name it ALLfiles or similar.

Physically go into each directory and cut your files and paste them in this folder, all your files, emails included.

Delete all other folders on the harddrive, except the Allfiles folder.

If you start XP setup again, choose the option "leave file system as is (intact) etc. DO NOT format it.

Install Windows, if XP is installed, go to the Folder again in Explorer and start restoring the files to the locations you want it.

I've done the above on XP, roughly about 10 or more times, never had issues.

Installed in on an IBM Levono ThinkCentre (2Gig Ram, Core 2 Duo 2.6Ghz) and it froze up on me within 10 minutes....while I was looking for somewhere to install a network printer. Formatted PC, loaded it again, and the exact same thing happened. Ubunto loses. But that's just my experience and opinion.

If I did that for every time Windows has done that to me, I would have replaced every copy of windows I have ever seen by now.

Thanks ... will give it a shot tomorrow when I got some time.

I've already used ntpass, thanks. Its not a password issue ... its a log in issue ... if I type the wrong password ... it gives the usual message ... but if I type the right one (In this case blank), it gives the error message. I'm going to hold up until Sunday ... if no solution, I'll format.

Do you have the Guest account enabled by any chance?

Try pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del at the log on screen and entering "Guest" as the username and no password.

Also, have you tried booting up into safe mode?

I enabled the guest account from a dos prog I have, but when I tried logging in as guest, windows didn't allow me ... I think something to do with the policies.
Safe mode doesn't work. But now I can't get into windows because of the error with the repair install.

With Ultimate Boot CD for Windows there is an app called Password renew that allows you to edit the passwords for all the accounts, but it is hit and miss, what I normally use is the null Administrator password option under advanced settings, this resets the Admin password to nothing and all you have to do is press enter, has worked every time for me.
