HI All.

After being quoted R2200 to install a HD PVR, i've decided to install it myself. If that doesn't work out, i'll call the professionals. Just one thing i need to know, do i need the 2x4 or 2x6 multiswitch? I want to connect the HD PVR and my existing SD PVR.

Thank you.

Edit: I see I just need a 2x4 Multiswitch. thanks.

depending on which decoder it is it might be suggested that you get the 2x6 if you want to add xtraview later

+1 made the mistake of installing with a 2x4 and a week later wife decided she wanted Xtraview, had to swop out the 2x4 for a 2x6, so have a basically brand new 2x4 gathering dust in the garage.

i'm going to buy the new decoder, will the 2x4 not work with that? I have 3 tvs so with the SD PVR and HD PVR will I not have 3 viewing environments?

first off i am no expert, that is the 2p right(where you can watch one channel and record a second)? i think that only uses 2 inputs, not 4 like the other?

you will have 2 viewing environments no? one with the SD PVR and one with the HD PVR? or is the SD PVR allow you to view 2 different channels on 2 different TV's at a time?

the SD PVR allows you to watch 2 different channels on two TVs. also another thing, something about an 80cm dish, do i need that for HD? i'm not sure if i have the 60cm or the 80cm.

I currently have SD PVR so afaik that means I have a twin LNB, correct?

Also, as stated above, the 60cm is currently sufficient. You might have to chance to a bigger dish later, when they change their broadcast standard to DVB-S2.

Yep
Should be easy then, get a 2x6.
Just remember, HD pvr needs or can supply a heart beat cable, this is needed to link the decoders and is a physical line from one to another.
Abt the dish, i am not sure about size, but i will say the bigger dish is 100 times better. The small dish a little wind or rain and it loses signal.

As QT says, if you getting the small HDPVR which are the only ones readily available now then a 2x4

You don't need any specific size dish to get HD, you can run it off a caravan dish if you want. The bigger the dish the less weather related interruptions you will have, so a 60cm is generally fine unless you live on the Cape coast or something

what about installation using the SatCR? anyone have experience with that?
