Help Knysna on MyBroadband

A big thanks to all for your efforts in collecting and donating aid for the western cape disasters i.e. floods/fires and storms.

We had senior Operation hydrate members on the ground in both Cpt and Knysna, giving updates on the situations as they were unfolding.

We discovered that the large organisations such as Al Imdaad; Gift of the Givers etc had a massive presence assisting those affected by fires in Knysna, to a point where the aid being received was surplus to immediate requirements. We also noted that many of the victims in Knysna were fairly wealthy and well off individuals, that were capable of rebounding from the devastation much easier than others in other parts of the affected areas.

Our team in the Western Cape sent feedback to us of a community that suffered massive devastation in Hout Bay i.e. Imizamayethu informal settlement. They had experienced massive fires in April of this year and had lost all of their possessions & accomodations in these fires. The recent cold front as well as 30 year storm placed these individuals in a very precarious position and left them vulnerable to the harsh elements without much assistance.

Late night consultation with the executive committee of Operation Hydrate led to a huge decision being taken i.e. diverting some of our aid to this enbattled Hout Bay community.

After consultation with key stakeholders (although all our members are key) we decided to divert some aid to this Hout Bay community that seemed to be receiving little or no assistance from the larger aid organisations.

In conjunction with Thula Thula, the entity distributing food and welfare items in Hout Bay, last nights vehicle will be received by them & given to people in this very precarious position.

Our sincere apologies for not communicating this sooner but please be assured of our best intentions in executing the great trust you have placed in our hands. Please be assured that we do not take these decisions lightly and know that your donations to the Western Cape, will be distributed in the Western Cape, to those that need it most, in our humble opinion.

Well, then I suggest we all vote that some or most of the money goes to GOTG and/or other organisations who will ensure the money goes to where it's needed most.

Just work out the ceiling of what you can spare and send the money anyway.

I don't care if it's stupid. You may have a point, I haven't really considered MyBBs motives except that they are doing something good that isn't required of them.

The point is you comment and 10 bucks goes towards helping those in need. Where's the dilemma?

Why, it is not your money or your decision where it goes to???

Go donate your own money towards a cause worthy of it. I do that. I don't go tell other people how to donate their money.
 
Thanks for bringing the thread to my attention. I will comment there.
RPM should consider a competition thread (click on the banners) whereby part of the click proceeds will go towards the Knysna fires.
Those threads always do well...

Here's an idea, post this in the donation thread... at least it will be worth something. :rolleyes:
 
Geez! Some of the replies here are just mean. I am an extremely cynical person, suspicious often and often very critical of MyBB, but you guys take the cake.

MyBB does not have to do this. All you have to do is post in that thread, and something, however small, will help out someone in need. Have a heart.
