Hi everyone.

I have left the console scene for 2 years now and am tired of upgrading PC components that stale too quickly, leaving me in the tech dust and unable to play new games the way in which they are intended to be played.

Besides a Wii which im getting rid of, i do not know which console to decide from between XBOX360 and a PS3.

Im aware its 2012, and new things are happening in the industry with regards to next gen console production and the launch of the Wii U later this year.

This is where i need help...

My budget for 1 April will be R3000 not a cent more!

I like the Ps3 because i have uncapped ASDL and don't have to pay to join the playstation network.

Im a Huuuuuge twisted metal fan and the new version of the game is right up my alley and im not the biggest FPS gamer as im tired of the genre but still love the COD series.

The controller has a built in battery which is nice.

This would be my first Blu Ray player so it has that going for it too.......

I like the Xbox 360 because i had the old phat Falcon Arcade model and prefer the 360's controller.

My wife wants to play games too ala Wii, so the Kinect looks right up her alley.

For the money i could probably get an Xbox with kinect vs a Ps3 slim and perhaps 2 games so my head is spinning from confusion.

I don't think i can afford to pay for Xbox live membership due to my studies happening later this year so im tied down to the initial purchase along with both consoles future uncertainty.

Please add your views and fanboi's are welcome if their reasoning is fact based.

I need help!

The PS3 has that Wii remote thingy as well doesn't it and I hear it works better than the Kinect.

"The video game phenomenon incorporates all of the elements of the worst spending categories. It is a purely discretionary expense. It is an expense that brings on an addiction that needs to be funded for years to come. It is an expense that involves a high one-time expense (for the game player). It is an expense where Keeping-Up-With-the-Joneses social pressures come into play. And it is an expense that involves a regularly occurring expense (for the games). This is an expense that is bad for your financial freedom dreams in five different ways!"

Something i stumbled upon...

There are so many things wrong with that statement I'm not even going into that.

I've got both consoles, and honestly, I don't think it really makes any difference which one you go for. Personally I prefer the Xbox, as I think the controller is waaaay better than the PS3 controller, but that's personal taste.

On the other hand Blu-ray is quite nice.

Xbox Live is not that expensive (I paid R290 for 14 months the other day) and the service seems to be a lot more stable than the PSN.

I dunno dude, tough choice, but I'd probably go for the Xbox with Kinnect (for the wife).

I used to be on XBox, moved over to PS3/PSN, very happy there.

you wont win here, everyone will have their own opinion. I have both consoles, use the xbox daily, havent turned on the PS3 for about a year, maybe I should sell it to you, awesome condition, like new and lots of games....rockband and keyboards and guitars

+1 everyone will give you their own opinions

I have a wii , and an xbox 360 with a connect, and think its freaking awesome.

Go look at the exclusive games for both consoles and pick a console based on that.

Hey thanks alot for the opinions so far.

Im actually tallying the opinions and keeping score.

So i have two people for PS3 and three in favor of XBOX.

Sheesh, only one thing i forgot to add, which one is more future proof?

All the reasoning except for the poster using psychobabble to disprove this hobby altogether, is pretty solid.

Still don't know which one to get i suppose a sale with a reduction in cost to either PS3 or XBOX will swing in its favor for now.

It seems the consoles prices have actually increased since last year!

If you are going to use the fanboi tally to decide on such an important issue then you lost out already. Your original post had more sense to it than the subsequent comments.

To listen to fanboi garbage and tripe like that the PSN are less stable will not help either.

The important thing is that what you want to do with the console. You mentioned that the other half like to play. The Kinect is nice for that, so are the PS3 move but IMO the Kinect has the slight advantage. For actual proper gaming the kinect is useless but the PS3 move again have the advantage there.

As you said, the PSN is free. You can also now download the free to play KZ3 online multiplayer. There is lots to do on PSN home.

Looking at the exclusive games the PS3 has the advantage IMO, with more choice and better current releases. This is another fanboi sore point so do not tread there or do it lightly.

I do not own a Xbox and probably never will depending on the next generation. I have two PS3's so two family members can compete online or play in co-op in KZ3.

The best is to look at the games you wish to play and see on what console they feature mostly and then go for that. For me the overall value the PS3 and PSN offers just outstrips the Xbox currently. Also the Xbox360 is on the way out due to lower sales partly due to the lack of new content. Therefore the new Xbox generation is in the process.

The additional features the PS3 offers on the Home Theater side should also be considered. It's got a BluRay player and is capable to offer decent full HD surround sound video playback and depending on the TV, play 3D movies. As a media server for content from the PC the PS3 is a great device.

Good luck with your choice.

As for ZA1's comments. His PS3 was never used as he is a staunch Xbox fanboi :)

Well if you want future proof wait till the wii U. Make a more informed decision then. Plus from what i heard the same controllers will be used for movement so you're ahead there. Another plus the games you currently have will probably be useable on the new one.

Thanks for the advice, however i disagree with tallying from fanboi's, because i dont wanna lose out and i cannot afford both consoles.

You seem pro ps3 and thats fine, i gave specifics as to my needs from the consoles and opinions are still divided.

Last night i was at a braai with XBOX owners and they seem to hate the PS3 for no reason, probably because they don't own it themselves and i really just want fact based reasoning why a certain console is better.

I never go with popular choices nor does my tallying affect my decision, however a clearcut why its better would make this decision easier.

Im not gonna do tallying anymore, but im still confused.

Its so close and the last thing i intend to do is start a war, i just wanna know why?

You have already made up your mind ... so go and buy it ... enjoy the PS3!

PS: You can not start a war now if it has already been ongoing for 8 years :D

nah not a fanboi, just prefer the xbox overall..the OP is welcome to come dust off the PS3 and see if he likes it, meanwhile will be in the other room with the xbox - heck even have a wii, that is even used more than the ps3

edit : either way, if youve waited this long, then wait one more year and get the next generation xbox

There are independant studies comparing xbox and ps3 as far as technology is concerned. 99% points to the ps3 as supperior. But in all honesty that should not be a decider right now. Google is your friend if you are interested in those reviews.

Both consoles are at the end of their lifecycle. Both manufacturers are working on the next gen consoles and we might see it surfacing in less than 2 years.

If I were in your shoes, I won't use a thread like this to assist in making a decision. The fanbois will use it as another platform to fight the war.

Not our fault you are still after all these years clueless about the PS3. This is the same story you spread for years, I read it many times over lurking on this forum.

The biggest reason people choose xbox in S.A. is because it's cheaper and easier to play pirate games on. It took ages before the ps3 was hacked.

Things like exclusives don't matter to them. When it comes to games the PS3 has by far and wide the better exclusives. From heavy rain, to resistance, to uncharted and Killzone and journey and Wipeout and granturismo and metal gear solid and twisted metal and infamous and ratchet and ratchet and clank and god of war to the soon to be released last guardian and last of us.

The Bluray aspect is also a big plus. Especially when you don't have a bluray player already. Once you watch a few blurays, DVDs will start to look blurry.

Ps3 also has move wich is actual useful in proper games.

But, just from ready your original post it looks like you've already made your mind up on the ps3 and looking for confirmation on your choice.

You left out another advantage of PSN. And that's plus. If you pay for plus every month you get free games and the ability to save your save games online.

Go with the ps3. You won't be disappointed.

I have a PS3 and I love it. I prefer the controller, I use it to watch Blu-rays, I prefer the attractive PS3 game cases and I really enjoyed the exclusive Uncharted, God of War, Ratchet & Clank, inFamous, Killzone and LittleBigPlanet series, as well as Heavy Rain. The Last of Us, Agent and The Last Guardian are in development exclusively for PS3 and they are highly anticipated. The PS3 has Move, which is similar to the Nintendo Wii's controller, but it is of no interest to me. I play online fairly often on PSN and it works perfectly fine, so don't think it's crap because it's free.

How is xbox live vs psn?
Played xbox live and there were always South Africans available. Does psn have lots of SA players for the popular games like battlefield and COD?
