Help me choose a console please....

I have a PS3 and I love it. I prefer the controller, I use it to watch Blu-rays, I prefer the attractive PS3 game cases and I really enjoyed the exclusive Uncharted, God of War, Ratchet & Clank, inFamous, Killzone and LittleBigPlanet series, as well as Heavy Rain. The Last of Us, Agent and The Last Guardian are in development exclusively for PS3 and they are highly anticipated. The PS3 has Move, which is similar to the Nintendo Wii's controller, but it is of no interest to me. I play online fairly often on PSN and it works perfectly fine, so don't think it's crap because it's free.

What's your PSN ID ..... for Killzone3?

Both consoles are quite good IMO

The console was is over, they both on par with each other so go with whatever you feel you want.

I personally own a PS3 and I love it.

Multi platform games are almost always better on xbox while the ps3 has some must play exclusives.

The ps3 is also decent as a media player if you do not have a dedicated media solution already.

If you want to game online however xbox live is the clear winner imo, psn just does not come close at all.

I own both consoles and barely use my ps3 unless its to play an exclusive or the odd demo now and then.

I'm a PS3 owner and it's cool but I gotta say, I'm very interested in how Microsoft is integrating all their different environments. If you've got a Lumia for example, doesn't it incorporate XBox Live elements into it? So if you're into smartphones as well, and are interested in other Microsoft products, you could have a look at how the XBox would work with all of them?

They copied the integration idea from Sony, but who cares it's good for all consumers. Did you notice the integration of all the Sony product's, Vita, PS3, phones, tablets, etc. :)

A bit off topic but is it true that blu-ray discs are more resistant to scratches than normal dvd-discs?

Apparently so due to the coating used but don't bet on it as it may still scratch.

I own a ps3 as well as Xbox, however currently only using the Xbox , my 3 year old enjoys the kinect games and I also have piece of mind knowing she cant damage or break a handheld control. Currently I'm just loving Forza 4 and Arkham City.

Once upon a time I had all 3 current gen consoles. The first to go was the Wii, as I quickly realised that it was a fad and sold it before everyone else realised, so I could recoup most of the wasted money.

Initially I tried to give the PS3 and X360 the same love, but as time went by, it became pretty clear that the X360 was the better console for me:
Multi-platform games were almost always better on the X360.
The X360 controller is more comfy than the PS3 one, I could play much longer without complaining about cramps.
The online multiplayer experience on Live seemed better thought out and integrated than PSN, even though you have to pay for it.
Bigger local X360 community meant more people to trade games and play online with.

Over time, the PS3 also started gathering dust and it was time for it to go. And so it went. I now have 3 consoles in the house again, but they're all X360s :D

Traded Killzone 2 and 3 a while ago. Sorry bud.

Killzone3 multiplayer is free now on PSN. It's probably why he asked.

I don't trade games though. I like seeing my collection grow :D

Follow the advice to decide what games you want to play first. If they're exclusive to one console that is the one you buy.

Last night i was at a braai with XBOX owners and they seem to hate the PS3 for no reason, probably because they don't own it themselves and i really just want fact based reasoning why a certain console is better.
You'll find plenty of PS3 fanatics too, who hate the Xbox for no reason.

No! I own two KZ3 Disks and two PS3's so I can play multiplayer co-op online with my son.

I love the free multiplayer as there are now many new n@@bs to lecture. :)

I've heard the Xbox get something called the red ring of death. Basically what happens is the XBox overheats, get scorchingly hot (red ring) and then burn your house down while you're sleeping in bed (death). Or so I heard.

The simple reason I chose a PS3 was for the top quality exclusives.

Xbox has Halo, Forza, Alan Wake, Fable and Gears of War - all games I would probably have bought but none of which I was crazy about.

PS3 on the other hand:
Uncharted
LittleBigPlanet
Heavy Rain
The Last Guardian (in development)
Metal Gear Solid 4
God of War
Ratchet & Clank
Agent (in development)
Kara by Quantic Dream (in development)
inFamous
Demon's Souls
Resistance
Killzone
MotorStorm
Valkyria Chronicles
Twisted Metal
3D Dot Game Heroes
Gran Turismo
The Last of Us (killer game in development by Naughty Dog)
Loads of HD remakes of PS2 classics
Flower & Journey (2 beautiful and emotional PSN games by Thatgamecompany)

Was a no-brainer for me, as going without some of those exclusive games was not acceptable and my friends who played FIFA all played on PS3.

Exact same reasoning I used.

You left out Wipeout though :D

That was in the old days with the old problematic 360 hardware. Not a major issue anymore. FYI the PS3 had the YLED Yellow light of death on the older units, much less of an issue than the Xbox saga but also now sort of no big issue (actually never was a biggy)

Rest assured that the new units sold today is oK.

Thank you to everybody for all the sound advice.

I got a secondhand PS3 320gig console with 2 controls both original and kill-zone 3, all in excellent boxed condition for R2300.

Im very impressed with the console besides the gaming as my dedicated multimedia pc is now made redundant since i have configured my PS3 to wirelessly stream my SD content from my laptop/torrent slave.

Since its only SD content i noticed no lag whatsoever, a task that my multimedia pc with a WIFI dongle couldn't even achieve, and i had to keep loading content onto an external HDD first so its much easier.

My wife can finally operate the machine so thats a big plus.

Very happy with my purchase and i saved some money as i already have that second controller and can focus on getting some decent games.

This forum helped me make a informed decision so thanks again.
