I'm bored MyBB folks - help me choose an OS :D

I do mostly dev work in PHP/MySQL with my PC at home - not a big gamer so that's not really a consideration.

Choices as far as I can see are:

1) Windows XP
2) Windows 7
3) Some or other distro - not sure which are in the running yet

Pretty much any OS would work for what I'm going to be doing (aforementioned PHP/Mysql, music, some video) so hit me with what you got and what you think :P

Running Windows 8 developer preview on one of the other machines. It's pretty terrible quite honestly.

Mmm, Fedora is looking quite attactive at the moment actually. I think it's becoming a toss-up between that and Mint.

Not Mint, that is all.
Fedora is good because its always bleeding edge stuff. Other than that Ubuntu is a safe bet. The php/mysql guys I know normally run a linux based distro.

Windows 7 64bit Ultimate with VirtualBox with a headless CentOS installation

That's what I'm running and I dev in PHP/MySQL (as well as .NET/MSSQL)

That's more or less what I'm running now. But I've found it faster for the current application to just run XAMPP and then git it to where I want it when live.

For a challenge: Hackintosh

I considered that, I really did - I'll give all the options in the thread a go tomorrow and choose one :D I suspect a hackintosh would be something of a challenge to get running properly.

I use Fedora on my private laptop, do some casual php/mysql development. Works great and have everything I need.
Work desktop is OpenSuse, and also have everything I need.

I prefer Fedora though, it seems more ....

For Developement of anything other than .net , I cannot reccomend Fedora More!

Edit ,You should post a poll methinks

What about opensuse?

I had OpenSuse installed at work for a while, but ran in to a problem when trying to cross compile on it. Eventually I gave up and installed Fedora 16 and now everything runs perfectly. This was for C++ and I doubt you'll have issues with PHP and web based stuff, but I thought it may be worth a mention.

Mint because Cinnamon is day bomb.

Besides you can get win7 win8 hackentosh and all the others running on a virtualbox VM when you need something.

Ubuntu is OK if you like unity, but you gonna be stuck when you wanna run gnome 3 applets and so on, and that is where cinnamon takes over.

Fedora is also a good option if you wanna go the rpm route.

Just to give you an idea of how Mint+Cinnamon looks, you can see my desktop over here: http://imgur.com/a/p3Ug9
Default is to have your app/task bar at the bottom but I've become so use to the top(thanx to Gnome) that I had to move it.
