help needed please

A friend at work purchashed legally a windows operating disk (xp probably), now it's asking her to confrim her key or something via modem or to call a certain no. etc every 14days or so...

is this because she didn't enter her key correctly when she installed it ?

what can she do to fix this ?

BUT she may run into problems with versions... eg. if her key is for valid for an OEM/DSP version and she has a retail version installed it will give her problems and she will have to re-install the correct version.

You're not really purchasing a disk when you purchase Windows, but rather a license, which is activated by a license key.

If she only bought the disk, with no key, then someone ripped her off. The disk isn't worth much - but the license is worth R1400+

It's called Windows Activation. Let her connect to the interwebs and activate her copy of windows
