Hi,

I am new when it comes to ISPs as we have always been with MWEB (since 1999) but my old man finally gave me freedom to choose one seeing as I'm the only one really using the net

Looking for ISP with following features:
- 4meg/ 10meg speeds
- Expected usage is around 200Gb - 250Gb p/m
- Unshaped or semi-shaped
- No throttling (or at least within my range of usage p/m)
- No contracts (just month-to-month)
- Download speed during peak times not lower than 200kb/s
- P2P and torrents have potential to run at full speeds (at least after hours)
- Gaming need not be a priority but be at least "playable"
- My budget is around R400 - R650 p/m (excl. line rental)
- Relatively pleasant after-sales support
- Capped or uncapped
- Business ADSL is welcome too if the price is right

All suggestions are considered!
Please say why you suggested it too

If you require any additional info please ask
I am in Risidale suburb (Northcliff, Linden region), with my exchange being on Beyers Naude (if that is useful to anyone)- I heard some ISPs are better in some areas (No idea if that is true)

Thanks in advance! :D

Please keep the thread constructive and any criticism is appreciated

On a side note, just want to thank MyBB for warning me about Openweb
I almost went for the Titan Uncapped but was fortunate to do some research beforehand
Big ups to you guys!

I've been basically with them all.

My third month now with Crystal Web. What a pleasant surprise.

[email protected]

I used to average about 350 to 400 GB p/m on my 10Mbs line.

*edit*
They have not officially launched yet, but the worst I've had from them is better than the best I've had elsewhere.

This is probably the best post I've seen someone make when asking for advice.

Why do you want to leave MWEB? Their premium packages will suit your needs.

Look at the 400GB package here:
http://www.webafrica.co.za/home/adsl/

And I'll have a look at WebAfrica and Crystal Web...

If you'd like to head over to our website there is a live chat option which is often far more efficient than mails. Happy to help you out. :)

I had a look at their Premium packages, in particular
http://www.mweb.co.za/internet-conn...ncapped-adsl/4mbps-premium-uncapped-adsl.aspx
However I don't exactly know how much more one would get over the standard one as it says its still subject to AUP and is shaped

I did see you mention Axxess
https://www.axxess.co.za/businessuncapped
The price is very good, but is it basically the equivalent of the MWEB premium package?

Well MWEB 4meg Premium let's you download 400GBs.

I have more or less the same requirements. 4MB line. MWEB is probably the best when it comes to line speeds and all of those stuff. I am currently on the premium package, and if you stay below 400 gig per month, you would be happy.

Think of MWEB premium as a 400 Gig uncapped package...

The problem for me was the price. I looked at all the other products, and CrystalWeb looked like the best option, when considering their price and policies vs other ISP's. Other ISPs policies were very dodgy, and the other ones had a lot of issues that is till today not fixed.

I am starting with CW tomorrow. Will come back and let you guys know how it compares to MWEB.

MWEB does not have a good reputation when it comes to high end users and throttling

That's with the cheap crappy accounts though. Example of throttling limits:

4Meg Standard: 110GBs
4meg Premium: 400GBs

Just buy the right account for your needs.

I can vouch for Web Africa capped. I have been with them since March and can't complain, browsing, gaming, streaming, and downloading are all excellent. P2P is shaped a bit in the day, but HTTP downloads always run at full speed for me. If you don't stream at all, have a look at Afrihost capped, I swapped with a friend two months ago and it was just as good - that is here in Durban.

I will by trying out Crystal Web for a month to test it out :)

Hi Kevmb,

If you are looking at an unshaped/unmanaged account you can consider our Business Uncapped account. 4Mbps priced at R596.00 per month, still within your price range.

We are also currently running a "Double your Gigs" promotion on our capped Accounts, which means that you get double the bandwidth for the same price. You can have a look at our pricing here http://goo.gl/QZg2uB. Our Capped accounts are also unshaped.

As they say, the proof is in the pudding so why not sign up for our free 1 Gig account, you get 1 Gig free every month and you can top-up as you go http://goo.gl/QZg2uB.

Regards,

The Axxess Lady
