Help please...HD4870X2 or GTX280

I'm really concerned about the bottleneck issue. I'll be wasting my cash if I buy any of these cards as I won't use its full potential. And I really can't go out and get a new Mobo and CPU just for the gfx card.
Out of interest is the bottleneck that bad. What if I overclock the CPU from stock 3Ghz to 3.2-3.3GHz?

Well they could always buy old now and then next month comes they feel bad because these cpu's are so fast and they just bought a new cpu, so i would advise not buying a new cpu til nov 17th because intel is not going to release cpu's that are not faster surely. Never seen them release anything but way faster cpu's.

They need to release much faster cpu's or else people won't buy them if they are only 5-10% faster.

Agreed, I'd advise most people to wait. But I'm not going to tell them to buy the new CPUs before final, reputable performance figures are released. :)

It would definitely help, though probably not much.

Thanks guys, I've decided I'm gonna hold out on the gfx card. I'd rather save up and get a new system at a later stage.
The i7 looks promising, though i'm concerned about the article that said
Core i7 is not the best processor for old games, or rather games at present, but in future, every big title would be constructed around multi process and Direct 10+.

use its full potentia

Just buy a sentech modem and plug that into the CPU slot, no more bottleneck issues, you stupid spammer! RAS

it will depend on the game u play though, some games are less cpu intensive.

But it is a good idea to buy equally rated parts

4870X2 By FAR!

think of this:
1GB gddr3 ram vs 2GB's of gddr5 ram on the 4870X2 ?
