hey all, first time in this section, hoping someone can help me fast!!

got a pc used for tax/sars/corp banking and there is a problem which i wanna fix without having to reinstall.. it runs windows xp, its not too old and has a E2200 processor and 1gb of ram with gigabyte g31 mother board. windows will not load and when i try get in normally it hangs on the windows loading screen. when using safe mode i can get to the desktop but nothing loads and cannot right click or control alt delete but i do have a mouse cursor.

i am now in the windows instlation recovery console and need the password but dont have it. can anything else be done about this...

thank you have a nice day.

thank you will try if i cant get this right. i did get into recovery console and i am now at a command prompt like screen with "C:\WINDOWS> showing.. is there something i should type to check or replace the files?

First check the integrity of your RAM with memtest86+

Happened to me once - PC stopped loading at desktop, nothing further. SO I reinstalled Winders. Bombed out. Only then did I think of testing the RAM - and it was definitely faulty. So I replaced it, and the PC's working fine for now.

I +1 the recommendation for checking your RAM. You will be wasting your time doing a repair if the ram is faulty. Most likely you will just make things worse.

So check the RAM first thing!
