Help Please!!!

This is not a case of putting an animal down because its scared, the animal is hurting itself, so while you cannot just go putting an animal down if you can see its life is not worth it then yes. Devil humans don't have a choice like owners of animals do, there is nothing wrong with putting an animal down if it has a poor way of life.

We have tried those, doesn't work.... they not strong enough they even said i should try remedy rescue.... nothing, and the thing is i'm not at home when the weather goes bad and i can not keep him drugged out the whole time.....:(

I poured chilly sauce and salt over the door this morning..... but if he doesn't worry about hurting himself i do not think that will work.

I really think he lost his marbles he started this now.... the thunder and door has always been there.

We have the same problem with our dog - he runs up and down and barks like a mad thing, and has torn his paws up with all the running.

We try really hard not to leave him alone when there might be thunder (easier in Cape Town, I know!). We've tried training, rescue remedy, sedatives, valium, leaving lights and the radio on... nothing helps, so I understand your problem :( Unfortunately I can't tell you that we found a solution... we just try to sit with him, in the kitchen so he can't run around, and cool him off when we can. Nothing you can do if you're at work, though :(

Ok so autistic people should be put down? Why not they hurt themselves and can't help it.

Putting it down is the LAST resort IMO.

Ps this animal does not have a poor way of life.

I am sure barring the thunderstorm times it is leading a great life.

Jip a huge yard to run around bath time his favourite best food (only at vet) he can dig holes everywhere just not the veggie garden sleeps inside the garage in a dog wendy with heater for the winter....

Lovely big brick house outside with duvet and pillows. He loves Maria (the lady that work for us) When she is there he is inside the garage with her, i can go on this is a pampered pooch.....

Oh and he doesn't want to be inside the wendy when the weather is bad he wants to Fsck up the house. He has gotten in and i didn't close the door to house or flat..... he peed and drooled ( BLOODY DROOL) on everything jumped on everything chased the cat lied down in the garage in front of the garage door and peed himself again.

Yes sounds like you must kill him now! I mean look how he is suffering atleast 5% of the time

@ killa: just kidding, but you see what I mean, putting the dog down because he is shlt scared of the thunder is like putting down your mother because she has some back pain and she had to go in for 4 root canals. 5% of the time is equal to +-18 days out of the year when it will have this problem.

If you're not prepared to go the extra mile to make sure the dog is safe and not so petrified then it would in the dog's best interest to have him euthanased. It sounds like he is in a sorry state with the injuries he has incurred during a storm. Can you just imagine the mental anguish and fear he goes through during a storm? Either rehome him or put him down...I also have a dog that is fearul of storms but my dogs have full access to the house (even when there's no-one home) and I arrange someone to sit with them in the event of a really bad storm and I'm not home.

Dude no skin on its, lips pretty messed, ramming the garage doors and what not, comparing humans and animals is kinda silly devil, there are alot of humans who i believe should be put down but it is not allowed, so again it makes no sense to compare the 2 as the one you have no choices. I did not say just put him down i said if it looks like his way of life is not good then put him down.

Look you hear for yourself how good the dog has it.

If you think the dog should be put down because it is in a sorry state 5% og the time please never come near any animals ever again.

The dogs on our family farm run around some have been bitten by rinkhalse, one lost an eye fighting with a ystervark. I have never seen the need to put any of them out. And they all have look pretty happy to be alive. Only when the animal is going to die in a horrible and very painful way is putting it down an option IMO

Nut this is only my opinion, if you want to put the dog down because he is scared for %5 of the year go ahead :)

I will do so....
Did you see the weather.....rain is comming.... the dog is going to go all emo again:(

Well adelp according to devil we only have about 20-30 storms a year so don't worry to much :). Although i doubt there is only 20-30 storms a year in some places, jhb for instance has more than likely already that many and there is still 4-5 months left of storms. Why not just let him go crazy in the garden and see if he won't hurt himself that way.

I'm going to we worse than the dog!!! There is bloody thunder and i can not go home!!! He is eating my house.....

Have u tried playing music in his dog house?
Also u can try and put some old clothes of u inside his doghouse.
Or if its possible put a doggy door in the garage door.

The other day when it was devali there was the same kind of dog trying to get into your house it was freaking out totally like trying to jump trough the window. So we let him in and he was shaking like a leave.

Why do I get the impression that the garage door and the damage is more of a concern to you than your dog's welfare?

He's a living creature who relies on you to provide him with a safe environment dammit and if you can't do that you should not have pets!

Great, so we'll just petition God to do away with thunder, shall we? Just to make it a nice safe environment. What else can she do? Build him a padded room?

Seriously, she's asking for help. If you have any actual ideas, please give them - I have a similar situation and would love any useful suggestions.
