ok so my car got washed and scrubbed with a sponge that left light but visible scratches all over it (you can see the swirls in scratches everywere :( ) my question is how can i get rid of the light scracthes all over the body of the car ? can i just take it for a wax ? or should i buy a special treatment for washing it or something ? please advise ..it looks terrible now :( oh the car colour is misty grey

burnishing compound should do the trick. Ask a local panelbeater for some.

Buy a tub of burnishing compound but use very little
It also takes out deeper scrtches :) Use a sponge with it.
Edit:Thou if there are scratches all over rather go with xrapidx's suggestion.

Burnishing compound is more for localised use.

Give these guys a call: www.poor-boys.co.za

Maybe they can also come out and do a nice valet

Yup, I would also go with this suggestion. It's time to get the professionals to do a buff. I would NOT recommend using any compound yourself, as you could do more harm than good. Some good wax will hide the swirls, but a professional buff is the best solution.

Of course next time you're gonna have to wash the car yourself to avoid this problem

BEFORE you use burnishing compound maybe ordinary polish can take it off ... never start with the extreme solution first as burnishing can ruin your clear coat if you over do it ...

i found the best polish/wax for removing fine scratches was diamond guard (if this don't work then try burnishing compound)

poor boys are in cape town...can anyone recommend someone in jhb to do a prof buff ???
i think i'm gonna try the diamond gaurd first as well...

thanks xrapidx, i have mailed them, will wait for a response... thanks for all the info

eish .. what sponge was that ... the green brillo pad type ?

Car wash did the same to my S2000 - had black double sided tape I asked them to remove at the back, my current numberplate is smaller than the old one - they used something to scrub it off - so I now have scratch marks :(

ROFL, I did this to my parents 4 month old car when I was a young-in.

There I was being all helpful and cleaning the dirty car with the ordinary kitchen sponge, and I used the green part to remove the unsightly hard-to-remove spots.

They were less than impressed.

Oh yes.... I had the exact same thing happen to me. Only way I could fix it was to get the car resprayed. Black car.

ouch ... my sister inlaw did that to my bro's car once too! Thats why its called a scourer!! It scratches, will need a good polishing after that, and probably a buff. Many hours of hard work!

   i don't have the money for a re-spray !

i'll have to try the diamond gaurd and if that don't work take it to a professional to sort out ...

with the diamond guard just be patient and continuously works at it .. don't expect it to disappear with your first polish ...

My car got the same treatment a few month after I bought it - that was 5 years ago and there is nothing you can do to get rid of these marks.
