Help! the urge is too strong

Killa when you stopped did you put on weight?

Hi Kitten,

I smoked for 14 years before I finally quit...and I know exactly how you feel. I go out a lot and to me that's my biggest nightmare! It becomes easier though and you end up getting used to not wanting to smoke while having drinks, that comes around the 6 month period, except the odd day here or there...and that is when you have to be strong. The next major said hiccup is around the 1-year mark, I'm reaching that one next month.

Whatever you do though, if you quit....do not touch a cigarette again! Trust me, I did, as you said, it tastes horrible, but still it starts to fight back slowly, before you know it you are having the odd drag here or there and later the odd cigarette during socials...and it creeps up from behind! I made that mistake and almost found myself buying a box again. And the next time round is just harder.

As for weight....I gained weight when I quit smoking, about 8kg's...and gaining weight is normal, do not let that deter you, you feel much better when not smoking and exercise becomes a lot easier etc so losing that 8kg's can be done with just a little effort.

Other than that, gaining a bit of weight is a small price to pay for better health, a better lifestyle and a far better smell.

Hi all,

OK. I have just completed 1 month of giving up smoking and man it's tough at times. Especially when you hit those "Can I strangle you now?" moments. Other times I look back at what I had missed out on while I was smoking for the last 11 years. Tasting and smelling awesome foods. But I also got to know why I had started after I have now given up. To all the folks kicking the smoking habit:- Don't give up, don't give in and don't quit while you're ahead.

Im a non smoker but I had to deal with my dad's trying to quit after 60 years of smoking. Well for 3 months it was hell, he was almost bed ridden for the entire time. Once he coughed up all the black gunk he recovered and is doing well and playing golf again. It was seriously a mind over matter thing as he is a singer and pubs and bars are always a temptation.
On a personal note, I dunno, but I get instantly put off, even the hottest chick if I see her pick up a fag. Just seems unclean and dirty....my 2c.

So if he has been smoking for 60 years, he would have started at minimum of 11 so your dad is around 71 and singing in bars still hahah awesome.

Damn it

This heading got me thinking something else.

but on topic....

YOU SMOKED 40 A DAY

And I though I'm smoking alot... The wife and I kill a 30 a day, so that is about 15 each give or take.

What ?

Repeat after me.....

"She smokes, she pokes"

O and I find woman who smoke sexy in a way. Obviously not some dirty bacstreet hooker smoking a joint. One can still smoke and be clean ;) My wife and I only smoke outside and you will never see a stompie anywhere. Unless I'm in a Raid playing WoW then I sneek a quick smoke at my PC without her knowing :D

I promise I won't be judgmental: Is your wife smoking whilst pregnant?

Yes she is.

She has with our other 2 kids also. She does smoke alot less but does smoke yes.

I guess I am a scaredy cat then. I'd stop doing any alcohol or nicotine whilst pregnant, although I know it is easier said than done.

She doesn't drink a drop of Alcohol what so ever but still smokes. My kids have healthy lungs and have perfect health. My Daughter was Colic (SP) by birth though. No idea if smoking had anything to do with it. But apprat from that, nothing else.

Alcohol is a big no no though ;)

One sip at the wrong time of development and you have problems.

:D While poking is cool, its the breath and the kissing that kills me ....er ....perhaps I should try a different position and avoid the kissing bit !

roflmao, my mind is in the gutter again :D

I wanted to say "Kiss the lips that don't smoke"

But that would be crude so I won't say it :o

Eek I put on 8 as well .... which im fighting to get off, thankfully it's not too bad. But wow, I sit with friends who smoke and it really kills me.

It's ok....it'll kill them first! :p

I know the feeling....it's tough! But it gets easier as time goes by and you get to a point where it doesn't really bother you anymore!

Just refrain from having just one cigarette or 1 drag...that will be the beginning of the end.

Oh...and don't take the hubbly bubbly route either...you can have it, but not too much. Even though it's not as intense as smoking, it still encourages and has a rather big impact on your current state.

Don't worry, you'll lose that weight....you'll see come month 9...it'll be easier.
