I quit smoking almost 6 months ago ... I was smoking 40 cigarettes a day, and when I decided to quit smoking I stubbed the cigarette out that I was smoking at the time and that was that. I now find that there are days where I don't even remember I smoked, but my biggest problem is when I go out and have drinks. I can't resist the urge to smoke :(

No matter what, i'll have a few smokes whilst out drinking. Do any of you have an idea on what I could do to possibly lower this urge, or hopefully, get rid of it? I usually wake up feeling ill (not from the alcohol lol), and I taste the previous nights' cigarette ... its awful :( please, if anyone has any helpful hints, more than welcome!

Sit in a not smokers section, also try having a whiskey on the rocks. Don't down it just when you really feel the craving take a sip. Warning: You might get horribly drunk :p

Is it not obvious? Don't go out and drink :)

Don't be silly.

It's something that will just pass with time...

The same way that you got used to not smoking in everyday life, that's the same way you'll have to get used to not smoking when you go out. Just have to do the same thing you did before: stub out your (imaginary) cigarette, and get on with the party.

Next time you want, say "I'm about to kill myself".
That should help. :)

Kitten this is my biggest problem i stop all the time but since i drink all weekend its a huge problem for me.

I have stopped for 3 weeks and last weekend i went to a wedding and got hammered as usual and i did not smoke, the difference this time round is in my mind i know i do not ever want to smoke again because there is no point to smoking in all honesty.

You must stop drinking when you go out or make sure you mind is strong when you do drink. Remember one thing you don't want to get hooked again so don't smoke when you drink or it will turn into buying a lose here and there and eventually your spending so much on lose cigi's you buy a box and well from there the whole pattern starts over, ahhhhhhhhh i hate cigi's :p

Can't imagine what it's like to be a nicotine addict, glad I never started. It's bloody expensive too!

It's war. You against the drug nicotene. You did not really expect it to be easy did you?
Now, stand up and fight it like a man while savoring the taste of what you're drinking.

Actually stoke after 6 months of no smoking its a war against habit and association more than nicotine, drinking and smoking go hand in hand and its the one habit majority of quiters will tell is the hardest to break. Its about mind over matter once the nicotine has been expelled from your body. Takes around 5-6 days after that any thoughts of smoking is purely in your mind and not coming from your body.

killa, when im out and I think about having one, my heart beats a little faster and I get slightly excited ... its awful, because I really don't want to smoke again, I guess we'll have to see who wins the battle *Sigh*

smoking - blegh!! :(

"If it's smoking, we'll asume it's on fire and take the appropiate measures to put it our" :D

Look cigi's in this country are actually very cheap compared to some places, yea i was smoking over 30 a day so lets say 30 bucks x 30, 900 bucks a month on cigi's is a kuk load.

Just remind yourself how hard it was to quit. I quit and started again many times until I finally decided that I did not want to go through quitting again.

So I have finally decided just won't start again. Been about 2 years.

And, yes, I always started again in a bar! :o

Spoken like a true non-smoker :(

I sympathise with you Kitten, I'm in exactly the same situation. I've quit a couple of times, but always the drink gets to me. The problem is that rational arguments don't count for much after a few drinks.

I'm trying atm (wife's pregnant with our first, she's given up completely), but damn it's hard. Guess I have to quit partying for a while. But hey, I'm social! :D

Killa when you stopped did you put on weight?

This time i did yea, about 2kgs but thats purely because for 7 days i ate a huge breakfast chips chocolate as mid morning snack, big lunch, big dinner and tons of bar one ice cream :p

Only for 7 days to keep my cigi cravings down to minimum, the last 4 or 5 days i have been chowing just fruit and salad for dinner so back to normal now :).
