Help! the urge is too strong

Quitting for yourself is one thing ... but for another person hardly ever works out ... I hope you are doing it for your own health and happiness, as you'll find in the long run it really is a burden lifted :)

Lol, yeah that is true but a hot blonde asking very nicely that you don't smoke has never hurt the initial actions :p :D

I'm about to quit. Nicorette microtabs. Check. Nicorette nasal spray. Check. I don't care for the gum or the patches but maybe a visit to a dental hygenist for a sparkling cleaning will be a motivation too.

Hose some advice i can give you :), you won't quit with those 2 things.

Go cold turkey or don't bother i reckon :), your still going to be addicted to nicotine and your still going to want to smoke, going cold turkey you won't be addicted to nicotine after 7 days.

The worst is the triggers...bar's, driving (smoking while stuck in JHB traffic), after a meal, coffee, after sex, seeing others smoke...AAAARGGHH the craving :(

+1

Drinking, and after a meal for me :(

The rest I can handle.

All true! Cold Turkey is really the only way! Nicotene is the easy part to ditch, the routine is what makes it hell!

I quit smoking almost 6 months ago ... I was smoking 40 cigarettes a day, and when I decided to quit smoking I stubbed the cigarette out that I was smoking at the time and that was that. I now find that there are days where I don't even remember I smoked, but my biggest problem is when I go out and have drinks. I can't resist the urge to smoke :(

No matter what, i'll have a few smokes whilst out drinking. Do any of you have an idea on what I could do to possibly lower this urge, or hopefully, get rid of it? I usually wake up feeling ill (not from the alcohol lol), and I taste the previous nights' cigarette ... its awful :( please, if anyone has any helpful hints, more than welcome!

It's a mental perception you're trying to get rid of. The "looking cool" and being part of the "cool" crowd is what you need to get over. This is basically the same for people who stopped drinking and can go out and have fun without a drop of alchohol... it's just a mind over matter change you have to make for yourself.

There is no urge. It's your "friends" smoking "looking cool" that makes you want to be a part of it.

So. I assume you're a grown adult out of high school. Grow up. Be more conscious to what you do (as habit for trying to "belong") and make a decision like you did when you snubbed that last cigarette. Remind yourself how awful it tastes and that you're an awesome person to hang out with and not need to smoke to be "in"

It's not school anymore. If your friends ditch you because you don't want to smoke anymore they can't be considered friends. Funny how it worked like that in high school. So stop that mentality in it's tracks and just do your own thing.

I'm sure you can. It will just take practice on your part
