Help with a smelly friend

I have had to do this on occasion... it has never ended well. Never ever.

I'd love to have a friend like this. Take him any place where there is a long queue and I'm sorted...

****, this poor guy will be inundated with messages from MyBB members telling him to scrub himself. :p

Hey guys

I have a friend that smells really bad but don't know if I should tell him because he will most likely be offended. He never used to smell this bad but recently he smells disgusting, it's like this smelly cloud hangs over him. One day he stayed over at my house and I had to literally wash everything he touched, now I make up lies why he can't come visit because I'm scared it won't come out next time.

So what you guys think is the best thing to do? Don't want to lose him as friend but I can't live with it any longer.

You have to tell him.

People become habituated to their own smell - ie. he can't smell himself anymore.

If he can't take it, walk away.

If you truly care about this person, you need to tell him. It's very easy to give this advice to other people, but I've never been brave enough to do it before, but then again I've never had a stinky friend. If you can't tell him to his face, drop him an anonymous email/letter like others have suggested.

Hi blah blah,

You're a really nice person, however, I've recently noticed an offensive body odour coming from you. I'm telling you this, because I think it's important for you to know and were I in the same situation, I would hope someone would tell me. Perhaps an extra shower a day or regular laundering of your clothes might help. I hope you come right :)

Got two people at work with a medical condition that makes them sweat loads. Their offices are in the same hall. One office between them. I almost feel sorry for the people sitting there

I think this is the best idea. No need to humiliate the guy with hallmarks cards and getting others involved.

Buy him a bar of soap, roll on and a can of deo. He will get the hint.
That is the worst possible thing you could do.

If he really is your friend and you care about how other people view him, then it is your duty to tell him that he has body odour.

Maybe just take out this part? Most of the time, just by talking about body odour, offensive is kind of implied because we hardly talk about BO if someone is smelling good. It's also less emotive and more subtle.
