Help with Chip pls.

ja my parents wont let me get a waitering job (*$*@*#*@#@&(^(@) cos of something that happened to my bro while he was waitering long and boring story anyway,
anyone got any ideas of how a 17year old can make money in xmas holidays ????

thanks for the help gnome, ye my main conflict was whether to go with the Penitum Dual core or the Core 2 Duo. It seems that its wise to just go with the Core 2 Duo.

well my mate bought from them same mobo but a better chip (E4600) and he has overclocked is pc alot according to him but i got absolutely no idea how to :(

You didn't read the entire thread did you?

Pentium D != Pentium 4 they are BOTH based on the SAME core.

And reputable hardware sites claim up to and over 100% overclock on the Pentium D, namely Anandtech and Tomshardware...

lol actually i did and i am going by my experiences (Pentium D 940 at 4 gig with water cooling against E2140 at 3 gig with stock voltage and cooling) no contest.

p.s. please supply links showing Pentium D doing a 100% overclock, not even the 805 could do that

Of course it is your option but you if you actually checked the guide I posted above you would have seen that a reputable hardware review site (namely Anandtech) states it is very overclockable reaching speeds of up to 3.2Ghz

and i would need someone to explain to me / read a guide on how to overclock?

help pls?

in your last post what do u mean by "it" - the pentium d ? or the core 2 duo?

Ok wait, Pentium D 940 is a Pentium 4 core....
Some places have a price list that states Pentium D Exxxx which would be a Pentium Dual Core.

So if the CPU is a Pentium D 9xxx whatever I say stay away 100% but if it is a Exxxx Pentium D - Pentium Dual Core or whatever then it is based on the Core 2 architecture but it has a few instructions disabled, namely virtualisation and such which you're unlikely to use.

This Intel nomenclature is so confusing...

lol i knew in a long way around we are talking about the same thing :)

ok its says E2180 2Ghz so should i take it? but if i can afford core 2 duo which would u really reccomend if can overclock both?

Stick with E2***, E4***, E6*** series and when money improves look to the Q 6***series. Pentium D the 8 or 900 series is dead next to them.

Well in terms of overclock for price the E2180 has more potential than the Core 2 Duo because it runs at a lower clock speed and can therefore give you a potentially bigger overclock percentage wise.

BUT remember, there is NO guarantee that the CPU will overclock at all, that counts for ANY CPU.

E2180 is based on core 2 tech why will you not understand that, only thing changed is fsb at 800 and the cache. The actual chip is a cut down Core 2.

Netburst is dead and has been for over a year

ok well i think im going to go with the E2180 and then go for 2 GiGs of ram instead of 1.

which is better E2180 with 2 gig ddrII800 ram or The cheapest core 2 duo 2.0ghz with 2gig ram ddrII800 ???

this is exactly wat teh pc format said - which is why i was considering getting this one cos it said in the magazine "the best value for money chip ever" if u overclock.

thanks for all the help guys
