Good Day all,

I hope that someone here with experience could comment on what I've done wrong here.

I signed up for CloudFlare Pro account, Imported all the DNS from my AfriHost DNS. Pointed the NS records (in clientzone) to the 2 hosts provided by CloudFlare. Everything seems to check out and doesn't bring up any errors.

Problem is, after 2 or 3 hours the site just becomes completely responsive and more often than not just times out, I get the CloudFlare error 524 "A timeout occurred". The graphic below shows "Browser Working" "CloudFlare Working" "Host Error".

I have tried this deploy on 2 occasions with the same result, what am I missing here? WhatsApp Image 2021-06-16 at 11.33.27.jpeg

Make sure that you allow all the cloudflare IP ranges to your real server at Afrihost

Hi,

It should work without any issues.

I see the name servers are back to Afrihost.

Hi AfriNatic,

Yes I was forced to revert the DNS changes back to Afrihost. I have tried this deploy twice now with the same result.

I'm relieved to get a response from AfriHost, is there anything else I should try? A user above mentioned that IP's need to be allowed, could this be a possible cause for the issue?

I have just tested the deployment with my own domain also on a shared hosting package. badbox.co.za and the website is functioning perfectly.

Have you added the domain to cloudflare and moved the records to cloudflare?

I can update the name servers from my side via our backend system and would like to try that as an option.

Hi AfriNatic,

I also did the same with another domain of mine on my reseller hosting with AfriHost and it seems to have worked well.

I would really appreciate any assistance you may offer, when I changed the Name Servers to point to cloudflare I monitored dnschecker.org to confirm that the DNS records propagated and everything looked good to me.

Will you doing in the back-end system make a difference?

Again, thank you for your assistance thus far, I am a long-time afrihost reseller and really appreciate your willingness to assist

We can definitely try it and if it's not working we need to get server admin involved to investigate why on your specific server it's refusing to work.

drop a mail to [email protected] asking me to change the DNS and send me the ticket ID here so I can do that for your. DNS will take about and hour or so to propagate depending on ISP and DNS servers used but we can then quickly troubleshoot and if it fails we can revert the changes.

Morning,

Just a follow up. Did you manage to get the change Cloudflare working?

Good Morning AfriNatic.

Sorry for the delayed response, I was off yesterday. I have also been milling over how best to do this test as the website is generating large amounts of traffic and any down-time is going to cost the client money.

I will open a support ticket today and DM you the ticket number, will that be ok?

Yes you can.

Also include the 2 name servers.

@AfriNatic The deploy seems to be failing again. As mentioned in the original post, it seems to work for a short while and then fall over. Please could you have a look?

Since before posting the reply, I've been waiting for the page to load in incognito mode. Still waiting for it to load

Now it's working again, Apologies for a (maybe) false alarm

Here is the analytics from CloudFlare, a clear drop in requests in the past 30min

Hi again and good morning

I've had to pause CloudFlare on the site as it has been timing out more often than not. Is there anything else I can try?

I really didn't think that setting up this CDN would be so difficult or should I say unreliable. Do we know why requests would be served by the London CDN?
