Help with CloudFlare on AfriHost

Hi again and good morning

I've had to pause CloudFlare on the site as it has been timing out more often than not. Is there anything else I can try?

I really didn't think that setting up this CDN would be so difficult or should I say unreliable. Do we know why requests would be served by the London CDN?
In your setup, have you done anything except the DNS changes to the Cloudflare servers ?
Maybe any firewall settings or URL redirects
Dumb question, but are you accessing the site from SA or another Geographic location ?
I have never had issues with CF (granted I host with Hetzner)

Hi Anthro,

No, this is a bare bones setup, I have only done the DNS. One thing I also did was to install the CloudFlare plugin on wordpress. I have tried running without this plugin. I didn't notice a difference.

I am accessing the site from PTA through a Rain 5G connection, I doubt this will have any negative impact

No need to install plugins etc in my experience, simply change your authorative nameservers to the cloudflare specified ones, add your DNS records for A records and you should be golden.

What did you set your SSL/TLS like ?

The issue is Rain, they aren’t peering with CF locally.

If there is in fact then a peering issue with Rain, maybe you are experiencing issues as a edge case - and your clients will not have this issue (It worked for me previously when tested FYI)
@GrantRez
Maybe try another internet connection ?

So I enabled CloudFlare for the site again and within 30min it was unable to load again. I got a colleague in CPT to check from his pc on a different ISP and he got the same result as me.. I don't think the issue lies solely if at all with Rain

Same result as in routing via London ?!

Never had this issue before. My guess is something isn't configured correctly somewhere.

I have asked someone from Server Admin to have a look quickly why this is happening.

Thank You AfriNatic, Please just note that CloudFlare is currently paused. Will server admin be able to troubleshoot with the service paused?

I have advised them on this. You switched the proxy off in Cloudflare right?

When I tested, I got JNB.

There is a proxy cache between CF and your website, so you probably need to adjust CF for that.
You’d also want to reduce load on your origin server as much possible to prevent timeouts.
For example I see HTTPS on your origin server with a cPanel cert, you can terminate SSL at the CF point.
Remove static file compression etc. Let CF handle it.

Server Admin has found an issue that might be causing this error as we were able to replicate it on another shared hosting server.

Please can you test again and revert back?

Will try again. Thanks AfriNatic

Seems to be the issue.

@AfriNatic The site is timing out again. However, I can see now that CloudFlare is now routing through Johannesburg. Still failing though

@DA-LION-619 Thank you for the investigation and assistance, I just wish I knew what exactly you were showing me. I can see the css file is causing a problem according to the linked resources, but I'm clueless on how to address this
