I want to buy an lcd tv but need advice. Firstly, I have a small lounge and a small budget and a small IQ. Why do lcd tv's (19:6) have pics of people with fatter faces and shorter legs than 6:4? The pic looks streched.
Secondly, I can offord a Proline JC 278UB63E 27" for R5 680.00 but I do'nt know
if the specs are good or which to look at for good quality. What does the following say to you?
1000:1
1366*7688
8ms
HDTV interface
SCART*2
thanx

ok, first off it's 16:9 and the reason is because the signa going to the tv is still in 4:3 thus the tv has to distort the picture, this can be fix by going though the dstv advanced option then going to display and select 16:9(thats of corse if you have dstv, and most dvd's have that option to), and im not to sure on the brand, but the specs look good, and with 8ms respons time i think you shouldn't have ghosting(my computer monitor has 8ms respons time, and even with the fastest pace games eg, unreal tournament game of the year edition there no ghosting). what is ghosting? well its when the image is blured and there even bit of the last image still there, this maybe only for a ms but you notice it. my sisters mecer lcd has 12ms respons time and it ghost's like a trip to hell, even when i play DoD(day of defeat) it ghost's and it's every distracting. the cantrast is also good @ 1000:1, but im not good with the part of lcd's, i hope i've been helpful,

Thanx for that pal. I will still have to find out about that HDTV Interface thingy. ie is it ready for the high density signal for the 2010 soccer.

Yes, if the native resolution is 1366x768 (which I think it is for this panel).

But check it before you buy. There is a massive difference between having a NATIVE resolution of 1366x768 (native refers to the actual number of pixels) versus a lower resolution panel that can downscale a high resolution signal for display.

'Ghosting' refers to a common problem with LCD panels, where the LCD crystals take a few mill-seconds to unwind (switch off) resulting in a shadow on the edge of moving objects. Decent LCD's should now have sub-ms response times. I recently got a 2ms LCD monitor for my PC. Very cool!

Yes, this is a native one. Amazing how prices differ. From R5680.00 to R7600.00 for the same tv. I wonder if Proline is Panasonic?

it's funny you should say that yours is 2ms, coz the ideal timing is 8ms and below, thus any thing below 8ms is more of a gimmic than usefull, but ya it might come in handy if say you were watching a movie that was move in an unbelievable rate, and yours eyes can responed to 2ms, so i think macro should buy the proline screen, im sure you wont see any ghosting with its 8ms respons time( unless you can see things is bullet time)
